Gulf Coast Churches Pray in Response to Oil Spill Crisis

Teresa Neumann : May 5, 2010  Rebecca Ross - Pensacola News Journal

"Today, my heart is breaking. Everyone here understands that God is bigger than this oil spill. We give our hearts to God, even when it's hard."

Praying about the Oil Slick(Pensacola, Florida)—Worship at the Water is a popular Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church extension ministry, which holds weekly services at Flounder's Chowder House. Last weekend, Reverend Jack Kale spoke to the gathering, saying: "Today, my heart is breaking..." (Bruce Graner/bgraner@pnj.com)

Speaking of the Gulf oil spill, he said, "Everyone here understands that God is bigger than this oil spill. We give our hearts to God, even when it's hard."

According to the report, Kale's emotional plea for healing and divine intervention brought many in the crowd to tears. The results of the spill reaching Florida's shores would be catastrophic on many levels.

Other churches in the area are activating in response to the crisis. At Pensacola Beach Community Church, members reportedly spoke about upcoming volunteer meetings and prayer vigils.

Pete Rasnick, a senior deacon and Gulf Breeze resident, said, "Something good always comes out of the bad. This is going to bring our community together in a positive way."
