"Since we left the Spanish port of San Sebastian de la Gomera in the Canary Islands we have covered just under 2,000 miles towards Port St. Charles in Barbados, we have often thought of how the slaves in the 1800's felt—as this was the same route that they took. I feel proud to be rowing the same route to raise funds to help release those in modern day slavery and prostitution, and I know we all take our strength from that. -Julia Immonen

(United Kingdom)—On January 22 a crew on board The Guardian became the first five-woman team to row any ocean and complete the fastest crossing of the Atlantic by an all-female team.

An Inspire Magazine U.K. report describes the competition, called the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, as the world's toughest rowing race, navigating 3,000 miles of the Atlantic Ocean.

The purpose of the race was to raise money and awareness of human trafficking world-wide by supporting the work of anti-trafficking groups A21 Campaign and ECPAT UK. (Photo: Inspire Magazine)

The winning team was inspired to compete in the race by Julia Immonen, a director's assistant at Sky Sports News and founder of Sports Against Trafficking. She is also a member of Holy Trinity Brompton Church.

In the report's interview with Immonen in Barbados, the finishing point of the race, she shared the great, and many, challenges of the race.

"Kate [a teammate] and I pray at night together when rowing and I said early on let's pray for the 27 million [trafficking victims] each night and we have—that keeps it really real for me."
