President Trump Signs $70 Billion Border Security, ICE Funding Bill that Includes Funding to Combat Child Trafficking
[IFAPray.org] Father, we thank You for the signing of this funding bill. We ask You to use this funding to strengthen ICE, Border Patrol, and every other law enforcement agency working to keep us safe. (Screengrab image: via Fox Business) A major immigration enforcement funding package has officially become law after President Trump signed the measure Wednesday, securing funding for the Department of Homeland Security, ICE, and Border Patrol through the remainder of his term. The legislation passed Congress after weeks of debate and is being hailed by supporters as a critical investment in border security and immigration enforcement. From Fox News: Speaking from the Oval Office alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Majority Leader Steve Scalise and other lawmakers, Trump said he was "thrilled" to fund the Department of Homeland Security and give "heroes of ICE and Border Patrol" needed resources through the end of his term, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). "The bill provides crucial funding for domestic law enforcement investigations and combating child exploitation, continuing our work to restore law and order across our nation, and to protect America's youth," the president said. ... All Senate Democrats and Alaska Republican Lisa Murkowski voted against the bill in early June, while the rest of the GOP argued that ICE and Customs and Border Protection must be fully funded through the remainder of Trump's term. The $70 billion package represents one of the largest immigration enforcement investments in recent years. Republican leaders argued that the funding is necessary to support deportation operations, strengthen border security efforts, combat human trafficking, and provide resources for federal law enforcement agencies tasked with enforcing immigration laws. The legislation's path through Congress was not without challenges. Some conservative lawmakers initially expressed concerns that the bill should have included provisions codifying several of President Trump's immigration-related executive actions into federal law. Others raised questions about unrelated spending provisions that delayed final passage. Democrats remained united in opposition to the measure, arguing that the funding level gives too much authority and too many resources to federal immigration agencies. Republican supporters, however, countered that ICE and Customs and Border Protection require stable funding to carry out their missions effectively and address ongoing security concerns at the southern border. During the signing ceremony, President Trump highlighted what his administration views as progress on border security, including reduced fentanyl trafficking and lower levels of illegal immigration compared to previous years. Republican congressional leaders echoed those themes, arguing that continued funding is essential to maintaining those gains. This legislation serves as a reminder of the importance of both justice and compassion in public policy. Scripture calls governing authorities to uphold order and protect their citizens while also recognizing the dignity and value of every human being. As immigration remains one of the nation's most debated issues, let's pray for wisdom, integrity, and discernment for leaders entrusted with making decisions that affect both national security and vulnerable families.
