Aimed at addressing violent street crime, the task force coordinates federal, state, and local law enforcement and includes mobilized members of the Tennessee National Guard.
"This is a significant milestone for the dedicated men and women working around the clock to end street and violent crime in Memphis," said Tyreece Miller, US Marshal for the Western District of Tennessee. "By removing these illicit firearms from Memphis streets and making 10,000 arrests, we have achieved unprecedented results, not just for the Task Force, but for all the residents and visitors to our beloved city. I am extremely proud of the work they have done and that they will continue to do to fulfill the President's pledge." Of note Tuesday: Cory Hemphill, 18, was arrested without incident in the 2700 block of Parkway East and charged with reckless homicide in relation to an incident in February. Andrew Delatorre, 19, who was indicted May 24 for child-related sex crimes, including rape of a minor, was arrested in South Gate, California, after MSTF investigators developed information that he was in California and sent a collateral lead to the US Marshals in Los Angeles to locate and arrest him. Christopher Sanders, 44, was arrested without incident at an apartment in the 130 block of North Evergreen Street on a charge of domestic violence-assault. MSTF conducted a consent search and recovered two handguns. Lysander Davis, 59, and Trey Davis, 25, were arrested in the 1300 block of Farrow Road on firearms and narcotics charges. Officers recovered approximately 26 pounds of marijuana, three semi-automatic handguns and an AK-47 rifle. Since the launch of the Memphis Safe Task Force initiative, officers have made 10,017 arrests, including 92 for homicide, 1,012 for controlled substances, 962 for firearms violations, and 105 for sex offenses. Of those arrested, 293 were juveniles and 1,062 were known gang members. The task force has seized 1,708 illegal firearms.
