Jamestown Church Where Pocahontas was Baptized Called an "Architectural Marvel for Its Time"

If the church is reconstructed over the current archaeological site, it "would be a place for Christians from all over the country to see where their roots are." -H. Wade Trump III

(Jamestown, VA)—In 2010, we at BCN posted an article about the discovery of the original church in Jamestown where Pocahontas was baptized and married to John Rolfe in 1614. Recently, a report in the New York Times has expanded on that discovery, saying experts are now calling the 64 ft. by 24 ft. church an "architectural marvel for its time."

"You have two very different Christian experiences; both of them can be equally rich and nuanced, but one tended to leave a much richer and more layered testimony about itself," agreed Richard Pickering, deputy director of program innovation at Plymouth Plantation.

There's been some excitement, also, about the possibility of the church being at least partially reconstructed atop the current site.

H. Wade Trump III, a Williamsburg pastor who traces his ancestry back to the Jamestown colonists, reportedly sees the site as a New World Jerusalem. "This church would be a place for Christians from all over the country to see where their roots are," he said. "This is really the birthplace of the Judeo-Christian faith in America."
