Oklahoma City Manager Says Prayers Have Miraculously Kept Disastrous Storms Away From His Community

Teresa Neumann : Mar 10, 2010  Sheila Stogsdill - Tulsa World

All of the town's churches pray via "emergency 911 prayer station."

Huey Long(Miami, Oklahoma)—Miami's City Manager, Huey Long, relies on prayers for protection when it comes to weather disasters and he's not embarrassed in the least to admit it.

Last fall, as reported in Tulsa World, Long asked the community's churches to join city leaders in prayer, and an "emergency 911 prayer station" was born.

According to the report, the system works like this: "When Miami Emergency Management Director Glenda Longan sees severe weather, she contacts her church and from there, the severe weather reports are relayed throughout other churches by assigned callers."

"We have prayer from all of the churches," said Longan.

The report also lists instances in which Long is convinced that prayers stopped weather catastrophes in their community. In one case, Long said, "We were preparing for a massive storm coming into the area. We had all of our city employees ready and we were just waiting for the storm to hit."

After Long informed the employees that everything had been done to prepare for the worst, he reportedly prayed for protection and that the storm would dissolve.

"We all sat around the radar and literally watched the storm dissipate," he said. "The storm literally went to the north and south of this community."
