"We realized we made a mistake. We changed it back from 'holiday' to 'Christmas'." -Atticus Simpson

(Morganton, NC)—Officials at Western Piedmont Community College recently made headlines when they told students they could not use the word "Christmas" to promote their Christmas tree sale.

Now, thanks to the efforts of students and the advocacy group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the college has reversed its decision.

Atticus Simpson, vice president of student development at Western Piedmont said, "It's a misunderstanding based on a legitimate mistake we made. We thought we were violating the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment by promoting the sale of Christmas trees."

"We realized we made a mistake," he added. "We changed it back from holiday to Christmas."

Matt Sharp, an attorney for ADF, said "It's nice to see a university stepping up and doing the right thing."
