Noah's Ark Search Takes Stunning Turn After Researchers Recover Wood from Durupinar Site

Abby Trivett : Oct 28, 2026  Charisma Media

"It's very exciting, but people need to understand that yes, it is possible that we have found the charred remains of Noah's Ark, but it's also possible that we have found the charred remains of a shepherd's campfire that he unwittingly decided to start while using the ark for shelter centuries ago. We won't know the exact age of the wood until carbon-14 and other testing is complete." -Andrew Jones, Founder of Noah's Ark Scans and Vice President of the Project

Researchers investigating the mysterious Durup?nar Formation in eastern Turkey say multiple pieces of wood recovered from the site have now been sent to a laboratory for carbon-14 dating, according to a new update from Noah's Ark Scans.

The organization attributed the development to Dr. Cenker Atila, who directs archaeological research at the site.

According to Noah's Ark Scans, the recovered wood is damaged and charred. They believe the charring could have resulted from a fire at some point in the site's history or from volcanic activity in the region. However, they have not yet established either possibility.

Importantly, Atila is not declaring that Noah's Ark has been discovered.

While the depth at which the material was recovered suggests it could be very old, researchers are waiting for the carbon-14 results before drawing conclusions about its age or connection to the Biblical Ark.

As Charisma previously reported, researchers have been awaiting laboratory analysis of material recovered during the latest investigation of Durup?nar. Andrew Jones, founder of Noah's Ark Scans, previously said the team had drilled more than a dozen locations inside the formation without encountering the continuous bedrock that some geological explanations would predict.

Instead, researchers recovered soil and organic material for testing.

The team has also reported unusual findings beneath the formation. Earlier Charisma coverage detailed ground-penetrating radar findings that appeared to reveal patterned voids and tunnel-like features beneath the site.

More recently, Charisma reported that researchers drilled 12 holes inside the formation and four outside it, reaching depths of approximately 66 feet in some locations while collecting hundreds of samples for analysis.

Now, wood has entered the equation.

For now, there is no scientific confirmation that Durup?nar is Noah's Ark. But with wood in the laboratory, soil samples under analysis and additional radar data being studied, researchers may soon have more concrete answers about what has been buried beneath this mysterious formation.
