And you wonder why Merriam-Webster just named "gaslighting" the Word of the Year? 

The statements were made on Fox & Friends after the release of a new Department of Defense report that calls the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan a "gift" to China. As reported by Fox News:

...Joe Biden's fumbled withdrawal from Afghanistan was a propaganda gift to China, his Defense Department found Tuesday.

The DOD's claim came as part of its annual report to Congress on national security developments relating to China, which it released Tuesday. The report suggests that China capitalized on the withdrawal to convince world leaders that the US is not a reliable ally.

"The PRC employed multiple diplomatic tools in an attempt to erode US and partner influence," the report reads, including "highlighting the US withdrawal from Afghanistan."

When confronted by Fox News' Ainsley Earhardt about a statement in the Defense Department's annual report that Afghanistan was "a propaganda gift to China," Admiral Kirby offered an unusual—albeit creative—perspective:

I don't know that that's the Pentagon's assessment that it was a propaganda gift to China. If anything, nations like China and Russia took a look at what we did in Afghanistan, and we've talked about this many times over the last year and had to marvel at the speed, the efficiency, and the effectiveness that a very small number of troops ... a small number of troops were able to move that many Afghans out of that country, no other nation in the world can do that.

Folks, we are through the looking glass here. Down is up, day is night, and Afghanistan went so smoothly we had Russia and China quaking in their boots at our impressive display of military might. The White House spokesman's absurd spin was interrupted by Fox's Brian Kilmeade who interjected an apoplectic and appropriate "Oh please." Does the Biden Administration actually believe anyone is buying this, or even buys that they believe it themselves? We all watched. The entire world watched as ...Biden's incompetence left Afghanistan in ruin and ripe for the return of a deadly terrorist group to steal back control of the region.

ACLJ Senior Military Advisor and Retired US Army Colonel Wesley Smith offered his reaction:

I listened to him ... listened to a retired admiral trying to defend the indefensible and my gut reaction was he is an embarrassment to any of us who ever wore a uniform. The Department of Defense Annual Report, called the China Military Power Report came out last week, and the report clearly stated that China used the debacle of our withdrawal from Afghanistan to tell the world that we are an ally that cannot be trusted. That we are not a reliable partner in the world, and this is in the report, it is a fact, and Kirby danced all around it, trying to say that it is not so. I mean, he sacrificed any credibility he had left as a retired flag officer in order to become a political hack. And I couldn't believe he actually was doing it. Because look at what happened. 13 American troops died, 160 Afghan civilians, thousands of US citizens and Afghan partners were left behind. Biden's own senior military officers at the time told him not to do it. Told him to keep Bagram Airfield, to use that as an evacuation point. Don't use the Kabul Airport. And ...Biden overruled all of them and now we have two years later a retired admiral trying to say that the decision was a good one.

It's truly insulting, and it's a slap in the face of the families and loved ones of every US troop and innocent civilian that didn't have to die in the process of leaving Afghanistan, except for the defiant incompetence of the Biden Administration...
