Speaker Johnson Infuses Hope, while Citing the Challenge for Republicans in the Next Two Years
[Breaking Christian News] US House Speaker, Mike Johnson spoke briefly after the midterm election results became evident last night. (Screengrab image: via ABC News) His message was one of acknowledgment of the challenges Republicans now face with the incoming Congress, but also one of hope for the future. And especially one of faith in God. You can watch his entire message by Clicking Here. Some of the highlights are included below: "From the first day of this election, we knew that to keep the House and sustain our majority, we would have to defy more than a century of midterm history. OK? It's only happened twice in 90 years that a sitting president has picked up or held seats for his party in that first two-year cycle. ... It's very, very difficult to overcome... "We made our case in terms of common sense. We said this is a contrast election between common sense and crazy. And I will maintain that that is exactly what it was. "I adopted, a long time ago, the motto of John Quincy Adams ... our sixth president, one of our great leaders in history. He said, 'Duty is ours, results are God's.' And that's a family motto of all of ours, and we take it seriously. I've tried my best every single day as Speaker and campaign leader here to fulfill our duty. "As we look at just the weeks ahead of us, we're gonna be ready to build on our record of accomplishment. We still have ... two more months ahead of us. And as we enter the final weeks of this 119th Congress, I am really proud of what we were able to do in these last 2 years. ... Even though we had the smallest margin, and even though we had obstructionist Democrats at every turn (I mean they really do have Trump Derangement Syndrome, it's a very real disease), ... they shut the government down three times ... 120 days, the longest shutdown in history ... because they refused to work ... in spite of all those things, my friends, we had one of the most productive congresses in the history of the institution. "We gave the largest tax cut in US history ... we also cut more spending than any congress in history ... we cut 1.6 trillion dollars in fraudulent and wasteful spending to make government work more efficiently and effectively for the people. We also secured the border ... we've not had one single illegal alien released into the country in 17 straight months. That's promises made, promises kept. And because we brought back the principal of law and order ... we have brought the lowest crime rate, the lowest violent crime rate in 126 years across this country right now. We also have Trump accounts for every newborn, and we have the first ever nationwide school choice program that we codified. The biggest drop in prescription drug cost in over 60 years. ... We've added a million jobs in the private sector just in the last 19 months and it goes on and on. "But our job is nowhere close to being finished ... and the outcome of an election n one night doesn't change that a bit. Republicans have much more work to do. ... To ensure that the United States remains the freest and most prosperous nation in the history of the world. We will never give up on that endeavor and that vision. "If (Democrats) make the next two years about retribution and lawfare, and partisan games, every American will suffer by that ... We will put a firewall of House Republicans standing in their way to ensure that doesn't happen. "To every American disappointed by tonight's results, I mean, I'm disappointed too, but we are never discouraged. Because we live in the greatest nation in the world. Millions of Americans voted because they love their country ... and they're alarmed by the direction the Democrats are taking, their embrace of this socialist, marxist platform that is a threat to people everywhere and every single time it's been tried, it's ended in human suffering... "Remember Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto and he used socialism and communism interchangeably. He said socialism was just a step to get to communism ... it's a dangerous fool's errand. ... Communists have been responsible for the murder of tens of millions of innocent people in the 20th century alone. You know why it always leads to that? Because it begins with the wrong premise. ... If you came on the (House) floor with me ... and you walk in, at eye level ... the first thing you see—you can't miss it—when you walk down that center aisle, you see 'In God We Trust' right above the speaker's head... 'In 1962, Congress voted to put the national motto above the Speaker's head in the post room in the marble ... as a rebuke to the Soviet's philosophy during the Cold War.' Now what was the Soviet's philosophy during the Cold War? My friends, it's exactly what a bunch of Democrats right now are espousing. But when they voted in 1962 it was a unanimous vote. Every Democrat voted with every Republican. ... The reason they rebuked the Soviet's philosophy is that it begins with the wrong premise: marxism, socialism, communism, begin with the premise that there is no God. That is not what America's about. We'd better remember that in the days ahead. "...The battle to restore American greatness, none of that is over in any way. In fact ... that fight has just begun for our generation. We will win that fight for America. ... Republicans will not be deterred by the outcome of one election ... we double-down. We will continue pressing forward with our agenda of common sense, and our vision to make America great again. And come 2028, we will take back the House, and we will finish this job. There have always been twists and turns, highs and lows, in the last 250 years ... but we do not lose faith. ... And I am more convinced now than I ever have been before that God is not done with America yet." Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
