Some Chilean Miners Return to "Camp Hope" in Private Service to Thank God for their Rescue

"I am bringing him a piece of rock from the mine… as a tribute to courage, faith and hope." Chilean President Sebastian Pinera

(Copiapo, Chile)—Somewhat reminiscent of the Biblical story of the one-in-ten lepers who returned to thank the Lord for his healing, 13 of Chile's 33 rescued miners returned to "Camp Hope" on Sunday, to hold a private service thanking God for their remarkable rescue.

The service was held in a cordoned-off tent, where the miners and their families came together, praying and singing hymns. Afterward, they dismantled the tents that had been the homes of family members for some two months.

"It was inspiring," remarked 52-year-old Juan Illanes, one of the miners, "Seeing this camp I feel I've had incredible support. It gives you strength."

Chile's President Sebastian Pinera—who had visited the mine several times during the time they were trapped inside, and who was there to embrace each one as they emerged at the surface—embarked on a European tour on Monday, carrying a rock from the inside of the mine which he planned to give to British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Said the Chilean President, "I am bringing him a piece of rock from the mine, so he will keep it in Downing Street as a tribute to courage, faith and hope."
