News Staff : May 23, 2016  CBN News

"Peace is what we want, Mansour was a threat to that effort," -Secretary of State John Kerry.

President Barack Obama authorized the strike on his vehicle Saturday afternoon. Mansour and a companion had been traveling in a Pakistan state on the Afghanistan border. A heap of flaming wreckage marks the end of the terrorist leader.

U.S. officials say Mansour was responsible for attacks that killed thousands, and he'd been plotting attacks against U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

Speaking in Myanmar Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, said the strike on Mansour "sends a clear message to the world that we will continue to stand with our Afghan partners."

"Peace is what we want, Mansour was a threat to that effort," Kerry continued. "He also was directly opposed to peace negotiations and to the reconciliation process. It is time for Afghans to stop fighting and to start building a real future together."

While the U.S. hopes a more moderate leader will step in, Mansour's death could lead to a power struggle, eventually resulting in more violence.
