Prayer Urged by Home School Legal Defense Association that the US Supreme Court would Take on Case of German Homeschoolers

Aimee Herd : Feb 20, 2014  HSLDA.org

The Supreme Court will decide whether or not to take on the case tomorrow (Friday)—the announcement of their decision will be this Monday.

RomeikesThe fate of the Romeikes—the homeschooling family who fled Germany for America in hopes of gaining political asylum so they could stay and homeschool their children legally—may be in the hands of the US Supreme Court.

The high court will consider taking on the case of Romeike v. Holder on Friday, February 21st.

In the meantime, the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), which is representing the Romeikes has asked Believers everywhere to be in prayer prior to the court's decision—asking the Lord that the court would take on the case.

If the court decides against taking it on, the Romeikes will likely be deported back to Germany, where they could face large fines; lose their home, or worse: lose custody of their own children to the German government.

Below is a message from the HSLDA:

The United States Supreme Court is again considering whether to hear Romeike v. Holder, our German homeschool asylum appeal.

The Court will meet on February 21, and the cases they decide to hear will be announced on February 24.

We filed the appeal on October 10, 2013, and it first came up for consideration in November but was delayed when the Court ordered U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to respond in writing to our petition.

Now the Court is once again reviewing the Romeike case.

Will the justices uphold America as a place of refuge for those who are persecuted for their faith?

I believe we have made a strong and persuasive argument. The fact that the Court ordered the Justice Department to respond seems to indicate that at least one justice is interested in the case, but now at least four justices must agree to hear the case.

…Let's pray that the Court will agree to hear our appeal and that God will move the heart of the justices in favor of the Romeike family.

Thank you for standing with us for freedom. - James R. Mason III, Senior Counsel
