Raising "One Million Hours of Praise" for Our God - One Woman's Vision is becoming a Reality Those who visit the "Million Hours of Praise" website ( www.millionhoursofpraise.com ) have a special treat...the opportunity to hear Catherine tell you herself, about the vision God has given her for the Million Hours of Praise mission. With a Scottish lilt and great passion in her voice she describes the possibilities present in the constant praise of the Lord. "God has given me a vision to mobilize the church and the nations of the earth to worship Jesus for one million hours," she explains. "We want to believe there will be a symphony of praise that will resonate throughout the earth, in every nation, across every continent - that every tribe and creed and color would come and worship Jesus...." The idea for a Million Hours of Praise began to form back in 2003, as Catherine Brown of Gatekeepers, Scotland - a ministry of prayer, worship and evangelism - witnessed the increasing interest in singing, and TV shows like American Idol, Pop Idol and Fame Academy. As millions called in to vote for their favorite singer, Catherine said to her husband Stephen, "This is crazy - one singing to millions. Why don't we have millions singing to the One?!" (meaning Jesus) The thought did not pass and eventually God formed the concept into a vision for a Million Hours of Praise. "I began to dream of people from every nation joining together as a praise army to worship the Lord," says Brown. "Prophetically speaking, I could see how the Lord wants to redeem and release the sound of indigenous worship around the nations. Then in September of 2003 I was preaching in Glasgow city about Jehoshaphat and the power of praise, when God surprised me with a mighty prophecy about One Million Hours of Praise. It set a seal on my heart that this vision was truly heaven sent." Putting the Idea into Action Though Catherine was excited about the idea, putting the mandate into action was a lot more difficult. "I love Jesus so much and just want to do what He asks me. But as time progressed I started to feel a bit overwhelmed. I had to hang on tight in prayer and faith! As I wrestled with Million Hours, I struggled with the practicalities of how it would all be achieved, sometimes worrying about whether or not I would have enough resources, hours in the day, energy, inspiration etc. The list was endless!" To implement the vision began to seem somewhat insurmountable, and Brown began to lose focus, but as she started to worship and praise the Lord once again she says things became more clear and she then pursued the idea in God's grace. "I studied the life of King David, God encouraged me to see praise as a beautiful sacrifice. God also spoke to me through the lives of Paul and Silas when they were imprisoned. They were wounded but worshipped Jesus and the Lord came with power. Everybody's chains fell off, and the jailor and his entire family received salvation and were baptized. That was just two men praising - imagine a million!" (Cont'd)
The Call to Praise The Lord began to connect Catherine with others who would help facilitate the Million Hours of Praise. One of those was Noel Richards and his vision of a stadium full of worshipers in Germany during the summer of 2006, it was confirmation to Catherine. Slowly but surely, the Body of Christ in all its different aspects began to run with the idea and A Million Hours of Praise started to become a reality. Very simply, the mission is for each individual Believer to give just one hour of praise each week, as a gift to Jesus. Then, similar to a 24-hour prayer chart, the hour of praise is added to the "cumulative world praise total." The hour can be 5 minutes a day, until you get to 60 minutes. Believers can make their pledges by logging onto www.millionhoursofpraise.com . They will be reminded each week of their pledge, along with the running total of global hours so far. Participants will see a prioritizing of praise in their lives not to mention the entire Body of Christ joining together in united worship. Global Day of Praise This June 25, 2005, will be a special Global Day of Praise as Catherine is asking ALL Believers to "rise up and praise Jesus on that day" for the "world's biggest praise party!" Already praise party plans have come in from such nations as: Ghana, Mali, Liberia, Kenya, Wales, Scotland, England, Ireland, Israel, Berlin and the Philippines. And you don't need to be musical to be a part of the day of praise or even the Million Hours of Praise as Catherine explains, "There are many different ways to praise the Lord - art, dance, drama, banners, creation, sacrifice of love, the list is endless and Holy Spirit is well able to inspire us. Prayer is a part of praise too, and we are grateful for all the support we are receiving from prayer movements such as 24-7, Lydia, Deborah Arise etc. I am working with Youth for Christ and Scripture Union to facilitate a day of praise using graffiti as a way to praise Jesus and reach out to young people on the extreme fringe of urban life with the Good News. I am also hoping that the major art galleries will be able to host "Every day with Jesus" - an exhibition of art and sculpture from all around the nations." The Lasting Effects of Praise The website includes a page of testimonies that have already come in on the amazing changes that have happened since people have begun to really praise the Lord. Catherine herself agrees, listing answers to prayer, a new passion to dance and play her drum and shofar and her heart "uplifted" as benefits she's experienced. Also, reports are coming in of people being saved through the power of praise. What wonderful benefits come from just worshiping our God! The vision of One Million Hours of Praise was not meant to be a contest, but as Catherine explains, "It's a call to the global community of believers to praise … It's not an event, but an encounter on a global scale with the Beautiful Man Jesus. It's an opportunity for every tribe, nation and culture to unite under the banner of Christ's love and blitz the earth with praise and worship." "Million Hours is a rally call to the church to make praise a priority and commit to a lifestyle of praise and worship. Praise is the compass that sets and directs a heaven-bound people, moving us to God's heartbeat. As the church seeks God's face, the world will too. Do you hear the roar of multitudes crying out for Jesus? Can you see the Father's hand moving in compassion and blessing? Can you hear the darkness tremble as the church answers the trumpet call as Holy Spirit ignites a symphony of praise, releasing heaven here on earth, which won't stop until Jesus returns?! The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come Lord Jesus.'"
