10 Dead, 7 Wounded in Mass Shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon; Shooter Also DeadThe details on this tragic event are still developing, check back and refresh the page for updates. (Roseburg, OR)—LATEST UPDATE: According to a KPTV report, one student--who said she was inside the classroom where the gunman opened fire--had told reporters that the shooter had asked people to "stand up and state their religion," and then he began shooting. That report has not been confirmed. The student said she survived because she laid down with those who were already shot and played dead. Douglas Co. Sherrif's Office in a press conference on Thursday, confirmed the UCC shooter was a male, 20-years-old. According to the Sheriff, when police arrived on scene, the shooter fired on police officers and they engaged him. He is deceased. Major Crimes team was said to be conducting a thorough investigation to determine motive. UPDATE: According to the Oregon state Attorney General, the confirmed number of people killed by a shooter at Umpqua Community College was 13, at least a dozen more were wounded, some critically, so the fatality count could rise. Reports state that the gunman was also confirmed dead. (Photo via OregonLive.com) According to an OregonLive.com report: Douglas County Sheriff's Office dispatchers reported the first calls of an active shooter on campus at 10:38 a.m. in Snyder Hall: "Somebody is outside one of the doors, shooting at the doors." Emails alerted students and staff to shelter in place. Unconfirmed reports to dispatchers said the shooter had a "long gun." (Photo: Roseburg News-Review) Initial reports said 10 were confirmed killed, however, that number is expected to rise, as more than 20 were critically wounded. The average age of students at Umpqua is over 30-years-old. The local hospital announced they were expecting an "untold number" of wounded. According to an ongoing CNN.com report, the shooter is in police custody. The area was on lockdown, and students were being evacuated from the campus.
