JD Vance Mentions Sensing 'a Certain Darkness' during Encounters With World Leaders (Video)"I've seen a lot of things that convince me there is a spiritual dimension to things..." -Vice President JD Vance
During a wide-ranging conversation on The Bryce Crawford Podcast, Vance was asked whether he has ever walked into a room in Washington and sensed something spiritually dark. His answer was striking. "I've been in meetings with world leaders where various issues are being discussed, and somebody will say something, or somebody will make an observation, and I will, like, feel a certain darkness about it," Vance said. He explained that these moments can set off "every spiritual alarm bell in my body," leaving him with the impression that he needs to be extremely cautious about what was just said. Vance did not identify the leaders, countries or specific discussions involved, nor did he accuse any individual of being evil. Instead, he described an internal sense of spiritual discernment he has experienced while navigating some of the world's most powerful political circles. And for Vance, that spiritual dimension isn't merely theoretical. When Crawford asked whether access to highly classified information had revealed anything proving the supernatural exists, Vance said he hasn't uncovered a secret government file declaring a UFO is actually a demon. But his experiences have nevertheless convinced him there is more happening than what can be explained through purely physical means. "I've seen a lot of things that convince me there is a spiritual dimension to things," Vance said. The vice president argued that modern society tends to rationalize everything, searching for a scientific explanation even when something doesn't seem to add up. Instead, Vance believes some things make more sense when viewed spiritually as part of an inherent "battle of good versus evil." He even pointed to Gettysburg, where he once visited the Civil War battlefield and experienced what he called a "very dark spiritual energy." "It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up," Vance recalled. Yet perhaps one of the clearest examples of God's Providence, in Vance's view, came in Butler, Pennsylvania, when then-presidential candidate Donald Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt in 2024. Trump turned his head toward a chart at nearly the precise moment the gunman fired. While that movement can be explained physically, Vance said reducing the event to coincidence misses something much greater. "It is just so obvious to me that coincidences like that don't happen without the hand of Providence," he said. The moment carries an even more personal weight for Vance. He revealed that Trump had considered bringing him onstage at that rally and announcing him as his vice-presidential running mate. Trump ultimately decided against doing so. "What if he had called me on stage at that moment?" Vance wondered, reflecting on how differently history could have unfolded. "You have to use the spiritual discernment that you can to try to make the right decisions," he said. "And you have to accept that ultimately it's in the hands of God." That spiritual lens also shapes the way Vance sees the end times and one of the fastest-moving forces reshaping civilization: artificial intelligence.
"I don't know," Vance said. Still, he acknowledged that certain developments in the world would leave him "not shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us." Now he says some of what he sees developing around artificial intelligence carries what he described as "really, really weird spiritual dark energy." Vance cited an account of an unnamed AI company allegedly holding a burial ceremony when retiring one of its models, with employees reportedly crying over the discontinued technology. "That makes me feel very uncomfortable," he said. "And there's some dark spiritual things going on there." His concern goes beyond bizarre corporate rituals. Vance pointed to people developing romantic relationships with AI and even using chatbots as marriage counselors, warning about technology replacing genuine human relationships. When AI begins substituting for the human connection God designed people to experience, Vance said, "I think that's kind of satanic." But for all his fascination with prophecy, spiritual warfare and the darkness he believes he has encountered, Vance's message wasn't one of panic. Instead, he sees it as a reason to discern the world more carefully.
