[US Department of State] [On August 6th], the United States announced nearly $2 billion in partnerships with faith-based and community organizations that provide global health and humanitarian assistance around the world. This historic announcement is the largest allocation of global health foreign assistance to faith-based organizations in over 20 years. It underscores the Trump Administration's commitment to partnering with organizations that demonstrate faith in action and have proven their ability to deliver health and humanitarian assistance in the world's most difficult environments. This new funding will be provided to an extensive network of internationally recognized and local faith-based partners including World Vision, Compassion International, and Samaritan's Purse.

Strengthening Faith-Based and Community Health Services Globally

As a landmark commitment under the America First Global Health Strategy (AFGHS), the Department of State announced $1.4 billion to support the delivery of integrated, life-saving health services through faith and community-based hospitals and clinics in more than 20 countries. Through the Faith and Community Initiative (FCI) Award to World Vision and a consortium of local faith-based implementers, the Department plans to provide up to $850 million over five years, subject to the availability of funds, to support:

Over 2,500 faith-based hospitals, clinics and community hubs will be strengthened to deliver cost-effective, high-quality healthcare services across 17 countries.

More than 30,000 community health workers will be trained, paid, and equipped with supplies to deliver critical health services.
An additional $570 million will be provided to faith-based and community hospitals and clinics directly through funding in the Memorandums of Understanding signed with country governments under the AFGHS. This combined $1.4 billion represents the largest announcement of global health foreign assistance to faith-based organizations in over 20 years.

In many of the countries where the United States provides foreign assistance, faith-based healthcare providers represent 40% or more of all health facilities. By leveraging faith-based and community-run hospitals and clinics, the Department of State is strengthening health service delivery that prevents illness, saves lives, and ensures a path toward self-reliance. The faith-based and community organizations are ensuring at least 80% of resources go toward frontline health services that reach patients and clients while streamlining overhead and management costs, a significant increase from the 35% to 40% of resources that went to frontline health services in historical awards from the State Department.

Proven Partners in the World's Hardest Places

As part of this historic announcement, the United States is announcing our intention to provide $538 million to trusted partners as part of a series of global humanitarian assistance awards through which the State Department is channeling life-saving assistance. This $538 million in humanitarian response funding – for Samaritan's Purse and a consortium jointly led by World Vision and Compassion International – is expected to reach 7 million people with critical, lifesaving assistance across 16 humanitarian crises. Over $100 million will be made immediately available to respond to natural disasters around the world while also strengthening preparedness in 23 disaster-prone countries.

Samaritan's Purse has operated in more than 100 countries and has built a decades-long record of delivering emergency relief in conflict zones, post-disaster environments, and disease outbreak settings where few others can operate effectively. The organization's field-forward model of rapid deployment of its aircraft, personnel, supplies, and field hospitals, often within hours of a crisis, aligns directly with the Trump Administration's priority of getting assistance to those who need it most, without bureaucratic delay. Most recently, Samaritan's Purse deployed a field hospital in Venezuela following the devastating June earthquakes, treating patients from impacted areas. (Screengrab image: via SamaritansPurse.org)

The World Vision – Compassion International consortium, in collaboration with the Accord Network, brings together a multitude of faith-based organizations that bring decades of global disaster and humanitarian response expertise. World Vision, which reached 35.6 million people through 104 disaster responses in 2025 with a footprint across more than 100 countries; Compassion International, with over 70 years of experience partnering with tens of thousands of local churches across 29 countries with a proven record of rapid emergency responses in earthquakes, cyclones, epidemics, and conflict displacement. Together, this consortium combines the experience, robust compliance and transparency, trusted local relationships and financial scale to deliver rapid, effective emergency response at a global level.

Samaritan's Purse, World Vision, and Compassion International exemplify the Administration's commitment to partnering with faith-based and community organizations that responsibly steward taxpayer dollars while delivering lifesaving assistance to those in need.
