Baseball Players Refuse to Wear Pride Uniforms, Forced to Forfeit

SMG News Wire : Jun 19, 2026  ToddStarnes.com

In a day when ballplayers are routinely pressured to promote causes that have nothing to do with baseball, these athletes apparently decided their conscience mattered more than a theme-night costume.

The York Revolution, a team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, forfeited Thursday night's game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs after several players refused to wear rainbow-themed pride night jerseys.

According to Fox News, the team had planned to wear LGBTQ-themed uniforms as part of its 11th annual pride night celebration at WellSpan Park. The Guardian reported the jerseys included rainbow sleeves and were supposed to be worn during the game.

But several players said no.

"Unfortunately, several of our players have refused to wear the scheduled pride night jersey and the club decided that hosting the event is more important than forcing players to wear jerseys they are not comfortable with and playing the game," the York Revolution said in a scathing statement posted on the team's website.

In a day when ballplayers are routinely pressured to promote causes that have nothing to do with baseball, these athletes apparently decided their conscience mattered more than a theme-night costume.

They were not protesting fans. They were not keeping anyone from attending the ballpark. They simply refused to wear a uniform promoting a political and cultural movement.

The team [officials], however, sided with the pride night organizers.

"As a result, and out of respect for the Pride Community and the York community as a whole, the York Revolution has decided that the game on Thursday, June 18 will be forfeited and that pride night will continue on as the feature element of the evening at WellSpan Park," the club said.

CBS21 in Pennsylvania reported the Revolution said the players' actions were "completely inconsistent with our vision as the Most Welcoming Place in York."

The team went even further, announcing a $10,000 donation to the Rainbow Rose Center, a local LGBTQIA+ organization.

"As a small token of our regret for the last-minute change of plans and support for our LGBTQIA+ representing partners we are making a $10,000 donation to the Rainbow Rose Center," the team said.

People magazine reported that the Rainbow Rose Center said it was "disappointed" by the outcome, while also thanking the Revolution for making sure Pride in the Park still took place.

"This situation has been difficult for many members of the LGBTQIA+ community, our supporters, and our organization," the center said, according to People. "While we are disappointed that circumstances led to this outcome, we appreciate the York Revolution's commitment to ensuring that Pride in the Park will still take place."

The York controversy comes amid a broader national debate over Pride Month in baseball. The Associated Press reported that several San Francisco Giants players recently added Bible verses to pride night caps or declined to wear the themed caps altogether. MLB later warned players about uniform-policy violations, while insisting the warning was about altered caps and not the religious message.

Giants pitcher Landen Roupp told reporters his Bible verse was about "God's covenant" and added, "thankfully we live in a country where you know, we have freedom to believe what we want, yeah, and express what we want," according to the Associated Press.

That is exactly the point.

At least the owners of the York Revolution were honest enough to admit that forcing people to celebrate transgenderism and pansexuals was more important than the game itself. Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
