Louisiana Dad Poisons His Daughter with Abortion Drug in Latest Mifepristone Horror Story

Suzanne Bowdey : Jun 16, 2026  The Washington Stand

...Unfortunately, these are the horrifying realities women face until the Trump administration finally decides to step in and restore the safety protocol for the abortion drug.

[WashingtonStand.com] In a small town in southern Louisiana, a 17-year-old mom is trying to shake the trauma of an emergency c-section she never should have had. Her baby, weighing just a single pound and fighting for its life, wasn't due for another three months. But the fact that the tiny child is alive at all is a miracle, since the young girl was poisoned by her dad with the abortion drug—the latest in a long line of shocking stories about mifepristone, the murder weapon of choice for angry, predatory men. Jamelle Kelly isn't even 40, but he's a grandfather now despite his sinister plan. On Friday, he was arrested for drugging his daughter with the abortion pill to kill her unborn baby—a plan that sent the teenager to the ER and her baby to intensive care. The fact that Kelly could even get his hands on mifepristone is outrageous, but as Family Research Council's Casey Harper underscored on Monday's "Washington Watch," under what circumstance should a man ever be able to get an abortion pill in the first place? "On a policy level, it highlights how faulty these federal [guidelines] are."

It's especially upsetting considering that Kelly's daughter was three months past the FDA's 10-week limit for taking the drug—making it incredibly unsafe for the young girl. But unfortunately, these are the horrifying realities women face until the Trump administration finally decides to step in and restore the safety protocol for the abortion drug.

Under the Biden-era guidelines—which our country is still operating under today—women no longer have to see a doctor to be prescribed mifepristone. If they did, crimes like this one would be a lot more difficult to pull off. For starters, if a pregnant mom were being pressured by her boyfriend, husband, or dad, she could tell her doctor that she didn't want an abortion. Case closed. Instead, thanks to the relaxed rules of the FDA, men can order these pills in another woman's name without any consultation or proof of identity.

And in Louisiana, where this young mom lived, chemical abortion isn't even legal. That means these pills were mailed to Kelly against state law, another loophole that's making women increasingly vulnerable to bad actors. "Without seeing a woman in person, doctors can't screen for medical complications, coercion or abuse. And when abortion drugs are ordered online, there's no way to know if the person on the other side of the screen is acting freely, or if an abuser is lurking just out of view or even making the purchase himself," Charlotte Lozier Institute's Anna Callahan warns. "This lack of commonsense safeguards has created an unregulated, dangerous market where anyone, anywhere, can get their hands on high-risk drugs." And who's benefiting from that? "Abusers and the abortion industry."

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), a medical doctor and one of the many frustrated pro-lifers in Congress, has been calling on the president to act for two years. "Men should not be able to obtain this drug and coerce women into abortions. FDA should immediately reinstate the in-person visit requirement for mifepristone. Women and babies should not remain at risk while FDA finishes its safety study," he argued.

From Texas to Ohio and Louisiana, headlines of men grinding up mifepristone and spiking their girlfriends' or wives' drinks are becoming sickeningly common. In one case, a woman woke up with her boyfriend on top of her trying to slip the crushed pills into her mouth while she slept. Hassan-James Abbas, who was ironically a surgical resident, ordered the drugs under his estranged wife's name when his girlfriend refused to get an abortion.

Court records explain the harrowing night this way. "Patient 1 woke up at 4:00 a.m. and saw that you were awake. She fell back asleep and then awoke to you physically on top of her. She thought it was a hug, but then, holding her down, you took your fingers and forced a crushed powder inside her bottom lip, beside her gums. You continued to hold Patient 1 down." While the woman got free and managed to get to a hospital, the drugs had already ended the pregnancy.

There's been such a surge in these crimes that Heartbeat International launched a national tracker, logging instances of mifepristone poisonings and forced abortions. Unfortunately, though, not every woman who's been bullied to abort makes headlines—a fact that Heartbeat's Andrea Trudden acknowledged. "Publicly reported cases likely represent only a fraction of what is actually occurring. Many women never report what happened to them, particularly when the person responsible is someone they know and trust. By creating this tracker, we hope to provide a factual resource that helps illuminate patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed."

According to the Charlotte Lozier Institute, nearly 70% of women who've had abortions say they were pressured to do so. The study's co-author, Tessa Longbons, pointed out, "We tend to think of abortion coercion in countries with oppressive regimes like China. In fact, this shocking hidden epidemic is happening all around us. Mail-order abortion pills remove the doctor from the room and make it easier than ever to force abortions on women and girls who do not want them."

The current policy opens the door to this new wave of domestic violence—on top of the serious complications that 11% of moms experience from the drug itself, which a majority of women were completely blindsided by.

It is "brutally ironic," Family Research Council's Joy Stockbauer told The Washington Stand, "that the abortion industry and its supporters defend abortion drugs in the name of a woman's 'right to choose,' while the very same drugs are so often used to undermine women who choose to do the right thing—to love and protect their children. Unfortunately, horror stories like this one will continue to happen until our federal government starts paying attention to the women and unborn children abused by abortion drugs," she insisted. "How many more women and children will be harmed or killed by abortion drugs until enough is enough?" Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
