Six of the team members were able to get away from the handlers overseeing them and defected to Australia; the rest were not so lucky. President Trump pressured the Australian Prime Minister to intervene on the girls' behalf. According to a report on Tousi TV, although the Australian Prime Minister had told President Trump that some of the members of the team wanted to return to Iran in fear of what would happen to their families otherwise, it seems that may not have been entirely accurate. In a later report, Tousi noted that the seventh girl that escaped was pressured with threats against her family back in Iran, and gave in, going back to the Islamic authorities overseeing the team. "So, [six] Iranian footballers managed to run away from the IRGC handlers, the rest of them are being sent back home. They are now on the plane [going] back home. While the Australian authorities stood by and watched it happen. "They were being dragged to the [bus to bring them to the] plane, they didn't want to go. And once they were on the coach, once again they were sending signals for help, but by then it was too late.
In a Tuesday evening report by Tousi, video revealed the team had landed in Malaysia to board the next flight to Iran. "Now they've gone back to Iran, whatever's going to happen is going to happen," said Tousi.
