Then, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde used her homily time to lecture President Trump on deportations and transgenders from her woke point of view.

"Let me make one final plea, Mr. President," she said as she concluded her left-leaning sermon. "Millions have put their trust in you, and as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country, and we're scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives and the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings ... They may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals ... I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away and that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here. Seated in front with their wives, President Trump and Vice President Vance listened respectfully, but the looks on their faces, along with those of the First and Second Ladies, denoted what they were likely thinking.

Indeed, on Tuesday night President Trump responded with a Truth Social post that didn't hold back:

"The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater. She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart. She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA. Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one. She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!"

They may be strong words, but personally, I agree our 47th President.

A Little Background

As a child, I attended the Episcopal Church with my parents, but its proceedings were very different back then.

In the decades that followed, my faithfully-tithing, churchgoing mom and dad became increasingly disillusioned with the changes in the denomination, as it became more and more progressive-liberal and leftist-leaning.

When the Episcopal Church was among the first to welcome gay ministers, it caused many splits across its dioceses and was the final straw for many Episcopalians.

Prophetic Response

Prophetic minister Amanda Grace had a powerful critique of Tuesday's televised National Prayer Service which she shared on X, saying:

"Many of us just witnessed one of the most woke church services that probably has happened for an incoming president ... [it] was nothing more than a bunch of Pomp and Circumstance that the Church needs to be delivered from--'having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof,' it was as sterile spiritually as can be. ... It was nothing more than holding the Trumps captive in there, while they went through the liberal talking points that has wrapped around the Church like a serpent ... and [has] helped to literally strip the Power of God from the Church ... make the sheep vulnerable to ideologies, and doctrines of devils that don't even come from Scripture or the Word of God..."

Amanda then prayed against the service.

The President of the United States isn't required to attend services at the Washington Cathedral, so hopefully, he will choose another church and denomination to frequent.
