NC Family's Dog Leads to Rescue of Grandson Trapped Under Rubble From Hurricane Helene MudslideThe house was lifted from its foundation and careened down a hill, crashing into trees. Before it was all over, Jamie — who was sitting on a couch next to his sister, Jema — found himself trapped under pounds of rubble that shifted during the mudslide.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Jamie Parker was pinned under a pile of destruction and debris as a result of a mudslide precipitated by the horrific storm in late September, WYFF-TV reported. Donna Johns, Jamie's grandmother, recalled sitting at the family's dining room table when she heard what she described as "a rumble" before turning around and seeing the house's walls and the refrigerator barreling toward her. The house was lifted from its foundation and careened down a hill, crashing into trees. Before it was all over, Jamie — who was sitting on a couch next to his sister, Jema — found himself trapped under pounds of rubble that shifted during the mudslide. "A railing was hitting my side right here and, I was stuck like this," the young boy said, noting his arms were pinned above his head. "I was stuck like this the whole time. I could move my other leg, but it was stuck in a pocket. But my other leg was asleep, and it was hurting really, really bad..."
