The Hill reports on the announcement:

"Our thorough and fair investigation exposed Secretary Mayorkas' abuse of power and refusal to comply with the law. In November, 201 Democrats voted to refer articles of impeachment against the secretary to our Committee and, having completed impeachment hearings earlier this month, we plan to mark up those articles next week," committee Chair Mark Green (R-TN) said in a statement.

"This Committee has conducted extensive oversight and passed historic legislation to secure the border. However, the final remedy for dealing directly with Secretary Mayorkas' willful and systemic disregard for the rule of law is impeachment. After three years of this crisis and a year of investigations and proceedings, we must move forward with accountability."

As you know, the illegal immigration numbers are out of control. Last month, 302,000 migrant encounters took place—a record high. On top of that, 2.4 million apprehensions occurred in the 2023 fiscal year.

You might think that the border crisis is only a concern for states close to the southern border. But for Republican voters in this week's New Hampshire primary, immigration was the number one issue.

The Biden Administration undid all of President Trump's policies that strengthened border security—and sheer chaos has ensued. Since Biden took office, more than 10 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border, of which almost 2 million have totally disappeared.

We have an ongoing FOIA lawsuit seeking answers on why the Administration quickly reversed all these legal policies that protected US citizens. It appears Biden's team undid the border policies just because they were Trump's policies.

With DHS Secretary Mayorkas, the central issue is dereliction of duty (an impeachment-worthy offense). If ...Biden won't dismiss Mayorkas from his post, the American people—through their elected officials—can remove him via impeachment.

Here's how an impeachment process unfolds: Members of a congressional committee draw up articles of impeachment. The House of Representatives then votes on the articles—only a majority vote is required to pass.

Then the impeachment managers—Members of the House—will argue for impeachment at the Senate. They can use experts from inside or outside Congress for aid, but the experts cannot present at the US Senate unless the Senate votes to hear witnesses.

The individual being impeached can bring in government or private attorneys (my dad, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, and I were private attorneys for President Trump during his impeachment hearings).

Assuming the articles of impeachment are voted out of committee next week, then the House of Representatives will vote on the impeachment articles at a time yet to be determined. They will likely have enough support to carry the vote. And then the impeachment hearings in the US Senate will take place—but I don't know if there will be enough bipartisan support to remove Secretary Mayorkas from office.

The illegal invasion at the border is completely out of control and must be stopped. It's not that we don't believe in compassion for those entering the country legally, but an open border has resulted in high crime and skyrocketing deaths from fentanyl. The American people are tired of reading about innocent victims because of the border crisis.
