Dr. Corinne: Achieve More and Be Your Best; the Value of Life Coaching

Dr. Corinne Weaver : Jun 21, 2019  DrCorinneWeaver.com

While life coaches may sometimes seem like therapists, we are anything but. The main difference between coaching and therapy is that coaching looks forward and therapy looks back.

Guidance, empowerment, and improvement are three of my favorite words to describe a good life coaching experience! Through guidance, I can provide support to help others to broaden their perspective and open their mind, hence enabling them to reach their goals. I absolutely love empowering others! Empowerment allows you to realize your own self-worth. Improvement refers to transitioning from where you are in life to where you wish to be. No matter where you are in life, life coaching can help. Life coaching is ideal for reaching both personal and professional goals. (Image: Pixabay)

What could a life coach help you with?

There are many benefits of working with a life coach, including:

  • Accountability
  • Results
  • Saving Money
  • Reduced Stress
  • Insight Into Yourself
  • Increased Self-Confidence

Be honest, the last time you didn't accomplish one of your goals, how many excuses did you make?

Accountability

Accountability means letting your actions rise above your excuses. Holding clients accountable is one of the most important keys to success. There are always reasons not to do something, but goals will never be accomplished by giving into excuses. Throughout my life I have always had a life coach. In fact, I have one now. I have awesome friends and an amazing husband, but I find a life coach is necessary for me to accomplish God's purpose in my life. Life coaches keep me in line. People ask me all the time how I do it all, I just laugh and say with God's grace, His favor, and the accountability of my Life Coach!

Procrastination

Procrastination is a limitation we place on ourselves. Being held accountable for our decisions and actions can help motivate us to be better.

Without a coach, you're only accountable to yourself, and as we all know, it's much easier to make excuses when others aren't involved.

Our most scarce resource is time. A life coach can help guide you through shortcuts and keep you going in the right direction.

Goals and Affordability

You probably have an idea of some goals you'd like to accomplish but aren't sure what the best way to achieve them is. This is where a life coach comes in. Not only can a life coach help point you in the right direction, but they are also there to help you out of sticky situations.

Working with someone who's been there before can help you save time and get to your destination faster.

When people say, "I can't afford a life coach," my answer is always, "You can't afford NOT to have one."

Think about the last goal you set and didn't accomplish. How much money/pain did it cost you?

A typical example is the desire to improve health. We all have an idea of what needs to be done, but because we're not really sure what will work we end up trying it all. We spend money on supplements, gym memberships, 'healthy' food, workout clothing, and DVD's, all in the effort to improve ourselves. But inevitably, we end up with half-empty bottles of supplements, workout clothes that get pushed back to the closet, and an unused gym membership.

We all have good intentions, but without a coach, we can miss the mark. This leads to money being spent and wasted.

We all need a shoulder to lean on, and a life coach can provide that support. A life coach can talk out scenarios with you and guide you through making hard decisions.

Stress

Common causes of stress include:

  • The death of a loved one
  • Divorce
  • Loss of a job
  • Increase in financial obligations
  • Getting married
  • Moving to a new home
  • Chronic illness or injury
  • Emotional conditions

A life coach can offer advice and be a consistent presence during times of extreme stress. Having someone at your side can help ease your stress and keep you on track.

As a life health coach, I'm here to provide useful feedback. Working with a life coach is a close personal relationship. Through the process of getting to know my clients, I have a unique vantage point which allows me to gain a deep insight on a personal level. Many of us don't recognize our own patterns of behavior, and a life coach can provide useful insight. By learning how clients carry themselves and communicate with others, a life coach can identify any potential barriers to success. On the flip side, I can also help clients hone in on their personal strengths and teach them how to use this as an advantage.

Lacking confidence in ourselves is the fastest way to failure. Working with a life coach will help you realize your worth. Sometimes our lack of self-worth can hold us back without us even realizing it.

As I mentioned before, it's my job, and my pleasure, to empower clients. I believe in my clients' abilities, which encourages them to go further than they might have on their own.

What life coaching can do for you

Coaching can help you:

  • Define your career goals
  • Manage your career according to an effective action plan
  • Boost work performance
  • Create a plan to seek opportunities for your career growth
  • Manage your time

Could you use help in any of these departments?

Life coaches have been helping people in various professions for decades.

What are some of your professional goals?

What would help you become more successful?

The success of a life coach is highly dependent on the individual and their desire to change. A life coach can offer help for all career stages, from interview coaching to coaching for entrepreneurs.

A life coach...

...is someone you can vent to and confide in.

...can help you get out of a funk when you're feeling overwhelmed.

...can give you clarity.

...can help you overcome obstacles.

...pushes you to pursue your dreams.

...gives you innovative ideas.

...helps you find balance.

...can give you an attitude adjustment.

Life coaching specialties

There are lots of different coaching styles and specialized areas of expertise. Life coaches can specialize in different areas, such as:

  • Relationships
  • Business
  • Finance
  • Health

The benefit of having different styles and areas of expertise at your disposal is the ability to have an experience tailored to your individual needs. Working with a life coach is first and foremost about developing a personal relationship you are comfortable with.

What can I expect from a life coaching session?

Here's an idea of what to expect during your first coaching session.

The first session will be used to identify which areas a client is looking to improve. Most sessions are done in person, but phone and Skype sessions are also available. The coach will provide motivation, guidance, and techniques to be utilized by the client. The coach is there to support clients, but clients must ultimately do the work in order to succeed.

Over the course of several sessions, the coach will gain a better understanding of clients' strengths, limitations, sense of self, and perspective in order to determine how each individual can benefit from a change in their thought process. The coach and client make up a team whose goals are shared and geared towards the betterment of the client.

While life coaches may sometimes seem like therapists, we are anything but. The main difference between coaching and therapy is that coaching looks forward and therapy looks back.

Life coaches can be picky about who they choose to take on as a client. Most coaches will choose only to work with individuals who they feel truly will put in the effort it takes to make positive changes. A coach doesn't want to waste your or their precious time.

Not every coach will be the right match for every client. We all have different personalities and capabilities. Some people simply connect on a deeper level than others.

Some of my favorite aspects of being a life coach include the ability to encourage others without passing judgment. I love that I get to help individuals perform at their highest levels, and assist others in living out possibilities they may have never imagined.

Guiding others inspires me to be the best version of myself, which in turn inspires others.

How do I know if I need a life coach?

Working with a life coach is right for you if you want to improve any of the following:

-Self-confidence and self-esteem

-Experience emotional healing

-Identify and clarify business or personal goals

-Forgive others and release old feelings

-Improve relationships with loved ones and co-workers

-Get motivated with a clear action plan

-Create and maintain healthy boundaries

-Work through major life transitions

-Develop and implement organizational skills

-Be held accountable for a weight loss plan

-Stop overspending and get out of debt

-Develop leadership and public speaking skills

Working with a life coach is a journey, one which you may not foresee the outcome. I always give my clients a gratitude journal that says, "Healing comes from the inside, so enjoy your journey!"

Each experience with a life coach can build on the last. Ultimately, working with a life coach is about empowering yourself to achieve more and be your best.

Dr. Corinne Weaver is a compassionate upper cervical chiropractor, educator, motivational speaker, mother of three, and internationally bestselling author. In 2004, she founded the Upper Cervical Wellness Center in Indian Trail, North Carolina. Over the last 13 years, she has helped thousands of clients restore their brain to-body function. When she was 10 years old, she lost her own health as the result of a bike accident that led to having asthma and allergy issues that she thought she would always have to endure. Then, after her first upper cervical adjustment at age 21, her health began to improve thanks to upper cervical care and natural herbal remedies. This enabled her to create a drug-free wellness lifestyle for herself and her family, and she also enthusiastically discovered her calling to help children heal naturally.

Dr. Weaver was named one of Charlotte Magazine's "Top Doctors" in 2016 and is now a number-one internationally bestselling author to two books: Learning How to Breathe and No More Meds.

Upper Cervical Wellness Center is known for finding the root cause of health concerns through lifestyle changes, diagnostic testing, nutraceutical supplementation, and correction of subluxation (as opposed to just medicating the symptoms). The practice offers cutting-edge technological care at its state-of-the-art facility, including laser-aligned upper cervical X-rays, bioimpedance analysis (measures body composition), digital thermography (locates thermal abnormalities characterized by skin inflammation), and complete nutritional blood analysis, which is focused on disease prevention.
