William Klug, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, was shot and killed yesterday afternoon on UCLA's campus. The gunman, identified as Mainak Sarkar, reportedly had a kill-list. He shot Klug, then himself.

Police say before that he killed a woman in Minnesota. Her name hasn't been released.

Klug's death shook students, faculty and staff. Many of them say they were touched through his strong faith in God.

Along with being a husband and father of two, Klug is remembered as being a "devout" Christian and "extremely sweet and kind" by one of his former colleagues, Professor Alan Garfinkle.

According to NBC Klug made a point of combining his love of science with his faith-based beliefs. Klug graduated from Westmont College, a Christian liberal arts school in Santa Barbara, California, in 1998.

Klug once explained how his faith and science both coincide.

"I intend to keep re-evaluating my faith and to maintain a list of reasons for what I believe. I refuse to be afraid to evaluate new evidence," he told Westmont Magazine in 2004. "Knowing there is a God responsible for the world makes a big difference in my motivation to understand it better."
