Amid Tragedy, Fort Hood Community Turns to God

by Aimee Herd : Nov 11, 2009 : Wendy Griffith – CBN News

"The overwhelming theme at Ft. Hood over the weekend was not so much anger over the senseless and brutal murders—but a commitment to overcome evil with good." –CBN News

CBN News reports that Sunday's message by Chaplain Frank Jackson was not filled with words of revenge, but those of grace and forgiveness, as Jesus' taught and demonstrated.

"Lord, you teach us to love and pray for those who rise up against us and pray for those who do us harm," prayed Chaplain Jackson. "We pray for Major Hassan, asking you to do what only you can do in his life."

Ft. Hood MP Angela Williams told CBN, "I think the most amazing thing I saw when I got on the scene was that although the soldiers there knew that there was an alleged shooter, and he had possibly shot numerous soldiers that were on the scene, they worked diligently to save his life. I thought that spoke to who we are as soldiers."

More than 30 chaplains visited the wounded, and military wives set about bringing food to victims' families.

One Army veteran stood alongside a highway near the base holding an American Flag; his pickup tailgate outfitted with a sign that read: "Praying For You."
