Really Seeking God on Behalf of Our Nation during the National Day of Prayer"The predominate population of Christians in our nation have been silent long enough and they are taking the issues to God in mobilized, corporate prayer." -NDOP Task Force This Thursday thousands of Believers will turn to the Lord in prayer, interceding for the country as the USA observes the National Day of Prayer. (Photo: MySanAntonio.com) How many of America's citizens will take part? In the days leading up to the Day of Prayer, there is the reading of God's Word outside the Capitol in DC; and a 3-day call for fasting and repentance along with prayer. …And then the Day of Prayer itself. In the book of Nehemiah in the Bible, when Ezra and the other leaders read from the Word (or law) of God, the people were so moved they went to their knees and wept for remorse. At Ezra's direction they were encouraged and the "joy of the Lord" became their strength. When King Jehoshaphat—outnumbered and facing an easily devastating battle—called for fasting and prayer among his people, to seek the Lord's help; the people of Judah responded collectively and fully. God came through and fought the battle for them. In 2Chronicles, when King Hezekiah cleansed the temple and reinstituted worship, there was a God-party for weeks—they didn't want to stop worshiping the Lord. What would happen if every Believer in America and beyond took some time to participate in prayer this week and especially on Thursday? (Photo: SavannahNow.com) In a media release, the National Day of Prayer Task Force noted some of the words of America's founding fathers: "In 1620, William Bradford and the brave men and women of faith aboard the Mayflower declared America to be 'for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith.' Later, it was President George Washington who said that the twin pillars essential for supporting a successful society are morality and religion. John Adams, our second President, declared that 'The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were…the general principles of Christianity.'" This Thursday is an opportunity for all of us to join together in intercession for America to come back to her roots of faith—and for God's Holy Spirit to move in power here, bringing hearts back to Him.
