In a victory for the people of faith in Kentucky, the override of governor's veto of "Religious Freedom Bill" passed the Democratic House 79-15 and the Republican Senate 32-6.

(Frankfort, KY)—House Bill 279, intended to protect "sincerely held religious beliefs" unless there is "a compelling governmental interest," was recently vetoed by Governor Steve Beshear largely due to fears that the ban might "discriminate based on sexual orientation, among other things." Multiple sources report the move didn't go down well with the legislators who produced and backed the bill—not to mention their constituents—and so on Tuesday evening, March 26, the Kentucky General Assembly overturned the governor's veto.

Said Martin Cothran of the Family Foundation, "The ACLU and the Fairness Alliance, along with [the media] distorted this bill beyond recognition. The magnitude of this vote should send a message to these [activist] groups that this kind of deception is not appreciated by the majority of the state's elected lawmakers."
