Father's Final Sacrifice of Love Saves His Son

Aimee Herd : Sep 3, 2012  FOX 29 News

"There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends." ?John 15:13

(Philadelphia, PA)?In a last-second act of that "greater love" of which Jesus spoke, a man in Northeast Philadelphia pushed his five-year-old boy to safety before the car heading straight for them took his own life.

The father and son were crossing Roosevelt Blvd last week, where it intersects with Rhawn St.?a stretch of road that has proved dangerous and sometimes deadly to pedestrians time and again, according to the FOX 29 report.

hit and run When a car failed to stop for them as they crossed, the father?now identified as 43-year-old Michael Romano?pushed his son out of the path of the oncoming car, just seconds before it struck and killed him, knocking him out of his shoes. (Photo: FOX 29)

The little boy suffered a cut on his ear from being shoved to the ground; his father's last act that saved his life.

An off-duty police officer saw the entire incident and was able to apprehend the driver of the car who fled the scene after hitting Romano.

He was found to be under the influence, and was already on probation for a DUI conviction.
