Announcing "The March of Remembrance 2011"Christian groups, large and small, will hold their own March of Remembrance observances in cities all over the world on May 1, 2011.
On April 30, 2011, Christians from around the world will gather in Washington DC for The March of Remembrance. The march—a one mile prayer walk in observance of Yom HaShoah (the Day of Holocaust Remembrance)—will commence at 4pm on the grounds of the National Mall and will conclude at the Capitol building. Immediately following the walk, Holocaust survivors and distinguished speakers will address the crowd from a stage on the Capitol building lawn. There, they will give brief testimonies and address issues of remembrance before lighting six candles in honor of the six million Jews who died in the Shoah. The event is open to the public and we cordially welcome all who are able to attend. Participants should assemble on the National Mall near the Washington Monument at 5pm. A map of the exact location will be posted on The March of Remembrance website. While there is no fee for participation, those wishing to attend must fill out and sign a registration form that includes a pledge of non-violence. Honorable guest speakers that afternoon will include: • Peter Loth—born in Stuthoff concentration camp; as a child, suffered brutal medical • Jobst Bittner—pastor of TOS Ministries in Tuebingen, Germany • Avi Mizrachi—the Foundation for Holocaust Education Projects • …and more very special guests still being added! At 7pm on Friday, April 29—prior to Saturday's events—Immanuel's Church located at 16819 New Hampshire Avenue Silver Spring, MD will host a concert to benefit Helping Hands Coalition, a humanitarian aid organization that cares for the needs of Holocaust survivors in eastern Europe and Israel. This year marks the sixth annual March of Remembrance that began in Germany in 2006. By 2007, the prayer marches had spread to Washington DC, the Ukraine, and cities throughout the United States.
