"Americans are determined to reach out with charitable gifts…"

While a recent study found that many Americans are curtailing their holiday shopping this year compared to 2009, they are still quite munificent when it comes to giving to those less fortunate.

The Christian Post (CP) reports that this year's World Vision study revealed that 51 percent of those surveyed would "be more likely to give a charitable gift as a holiday present." (Photo: AP Images/Mark Lennihan)

And, although economic times are tough, people's hearts appear big, as about 3 in 4 are planning to give more or at least the same as they gave to charity last year, according to a Red Cross study.

All of this, despite the fact that 86 percent of Americans admit to their personal finances being worse or the same as they were last year.

"This survey shows that, during uncertain economic times, Americans continue to prioritize helping those in need," remarked Devin Hermanson, senior director of World Vision-U.S. Gift Catalog.
