The National Fraud Enforcement Division Act of 2026, H.R. 9576, was introduced by Republican Study Committee (RSC) Member Brad Finstad (MN-01). In January 2026, the Trump administration announced the creation of a new division within the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate and enforce federal criminal and civil laws against fraudsters who steal from federal programs. The bill would make this a permanent division within the DOJ and require that the office be led by an Assistant Attorney General for Fraud Enforcement appointed under federal law.

The Preventing Rip-offs and Obtaining Oversight of Funds (PROOF) Act, H.R. 10326, was introduced by RSC Member Jeff Van Drew (NJ-02). The bill would help federal fraud investigators and prosecutors identify misuse of funds in programs such as Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) by requiring states to share data from these government-funded services.

"In Minnesota, we've seen the systematic failure of Governor Walz and his administration refusing to investigate fraudsters and safeguard Americans' hard-earned taxpayer dollars. Meanwhile, the Trump Administration and the Department of Justice have taken decisive action, including establishing the National Fraud Enforcement Division to investigate and prosecute those who steal or fraudulently misuse taxpayer dollars. I'm proud to see my National Fraud Enforcement Division Act of 2026 pass in the House today, codifying the National Fraud Enforcement Division within the DOJ and establishing a permanent framework to strengthen our federal fraud prosecution efforts," said Rep. Brad Finstad (MN-01).

"I am proud to sponsor the PROOF Act because these programs are there to help people who truly need them. States should not be able to block important fraud investigations when federal taxpayer dollars are involved. We should all be able to agree that this money should be going to the families, seniors, and individuals it was meant to help. This bill makes it easier for investigators to get the information they need and make sure that happens," said Rep. Jeff Van Drew (NJ-02).

"American taxpayers work too hard to see their money stolen through fraud and abuse. These bills give the Department of Justice the tools and structure it needs to pursue those who exploit taxpayer-funded programs and ensure they're held accountable. "Washington D.C. already launders far too much of Americans' hard-earned tax dollars across myriad federal agencies which have become far too big, far too complicated, and far too powerful. Rampant fraud has become the natural consequence of an addiction to runaway spending beyond what federal officials have shown they are capable of monitoring.
