Beyond Disturbing: Parent Sounds Alarm on Private School That Goes Woke in the Worst Ways (Video)

SMG News Wire : Aug 25, 2026  ToddStarnes.com

"Christian parents like us didn't find a comfort level with a picture of Jesus with His throat cut or a picture of the Bible on fire. ... They had a statue of a woman holding an aborted fetus out there for kids to see. ... Many of the private schools have gone woke and they want to use that position to indoctrinate children." -Doug Turpin

Doug Turpin, whose children previously attended Charlotte Latin School, told The Todd Starnes Show Podcast that Christian parents were stunned by material they encountered at the school.

"Christian parents like us didn't find a comfort level with a picture of Jesus with His throat cut or a picture of the Bible on fire," Turpin told Starnes.

Turpin said those images were not the only material that alarmed parents.

"They had a gay sex manual that had graphic, graphic cartoon positions to show children how to have sex in the young children section of the library," he said. "They had a statue of a woman holding an aborted fetus out there for kids to see. There was just shocking things."

Turpin said a group of parents—primarily Christians—organized to raise their concerns with school leadership.

"It was a group of us, primarily Christian parents, that were really concerned about what was going on at the school," he said.

According to Turpin, parents were assured there would be no retaliation for voicing their objections. But he alleges that after raising additional concerns involving his son, school officials expelled both of his children.

"The headmaster invited me into a meeting that was a setup and expelled my two children there," Turpin said, calling the decision "pretty obviously a cancel culture move because they didn't want to answer any of our questions."

Turpin also alleged his 11-year-old son came home deeply troubled by classroom discussions about race, politics and sexuality.

"He asked me, 'Dad, am I gay?' And I said, 'You're 11. Why are you asking me that?'" Turpin recalled. He said his son told him he had been encouraged to question his sexuality based on whether he enjoyed spending time with other boys.

Turpin and his wife subsequently sued, alleging false representations, unfair and deceptive trade practices and breach of contract. The father told Starnes the North Carolina Supreme Court has now cleared the way for key claims in the lawsuit to proceed.

"They promised there'd be no retaliation," Turpin said. "Then they start retaliating against my son."

Charlotte Latin School has been regarded as one of North Carolina's leading private college-preparatory schools. Turpin said his family had been happy there for years before what he described as a dramatic ideological transformation.

"We were very happy with it for 10 years when our kids were going there," he said. "They were everything they promised—transparent, honest, they invited feedback."

Turpin said the lawsuit is about far more than his own family.

"We're trying to set a precedent, not just to protect our children, but to protect all of the children," he said. "Many of the private schools have gone woke and they want to use that position to indoctrinate children." Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
