Idaho Coffee House Boots Pro-Life Teenagers, Compares Them to KKK (Video)

SMG News Wire : Aug 19, 2026  ToddStarnes.com

"We've got to get back to a point ... where we can disagree and still be polite and cordial to one another. And I think that's what's so shocking to our community right now." -Kristan Hawkins, Students for Life of America

[ToddStarnes.com] A group of pro-life activists says they were kicked out of an Idaho coffee shop while holding a small organizational meeting—an encounter Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins called "absolutely shocking." (Screengrab image: via Todd Starnes-YouTube)

Video of the incident shows the owner of the coffee shop berating the pro-lifers and comparing them to KKK members. Watch the full interview above and be sure to follow my YouTube channel.

Hawkins told The Todd Starnes Show that she and about a dozen people gathered at Wydaho Roasters in Driggs, Idaho, to organize a local pro-life group.

"It is absolutely shocking," Hawkins said. "I go to this coffee house frequently. They have the best doughnuts in town."

Hawkins said her 16-year-old son, Bear, was helping organize the group and that the meeting was intended to bring together pro-life residents from different religious backgrounds.

She said the gathering was small, quiet and taking place during a relatively slow period at the coffee shop.

"There were about 10 or 12 who came to our first pro-life meeting," Hawkins said. "We were not being loud. We, I didn't bring my bull horn, Todd. We were being respectful."

Hawkins said the group was also paying customers.

"I've got my receipt," she said. "There was probably over a hundred dollars worth of business that was done just between my family and the few other families who had ordered drinks and food."

According to Hawkins, the owner approached the group and demanded they leave. She said she attempted to defuse the situation and offered not to hold future meetings at the business.

"We were trying to calm him down to say, sir, this is our first meeting. We have no problem not coming back," Hawkins said. "We understand this is your private business and you don't want us. Let us just finish this meeting and then we'll be on our way."

Hawkins said that request was rejected.

She also alleged that when another member of the group asked the owner what an "everyone is welcome" message displayed at the business meant, the owner responded that it "does not mean white racists like us."

Hawkins said several of her children witnessed the confrontation.

"I had four children there. This was not a)ruckus event," she said. "My daughter who's 11 years old was sitting there reading while this was happening."

Hawkins said the incident was especially jarring because residents in the Teton Valley community generally coexist despite political and religious differences.

"We know we have different faiths and views, but everyone pretty much gets along," she said.

But Hawkins said the confrontation could ultimately strengthen the resolve of the fledgling pro-life group.

"My students who have faced the most adversity, the name calling, the discrimination, they tend to be our best pro-life activists and voices long-term," she said.

Hawkins said one of her children was particularly disappointed by the family's apparent banishment from the coffee shop.

"I have one who's very upset that he can't go back and get his donuts," she said.

Still, Hawkins said the episode carries a larger lesson about political discourse.

"We've got to get back to a point, Todd, where we can disagree and still be polite and cordial to one another," she said. "And I think that's what's so shocking to our community right now." Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
