Congresswoman's Resolution Would Ditch 'Perverse' Pride Month, and Give June a New Name"Strong families are the foundation of a strong nation." -Rep. Mary Miller
Miller wants Congress to stop recognizing Pride Month and instead celebrate "the benefit of marriage and family to men, women, children, and society." Miller said that Americans have been "inundated with perverse Pride Month displays and events throughout the month of June that denigrate the nuclear family." The decline of marriage and family has led to "a rise in crime, drug abuse, and other social ills," she said. As a result, Miller moved to name June "Family Month" in order to "rededicate our Nation to the importance of this essential unit." "The traditional family is the greatest obstacle to the Left's cultural agenda, which is why they have spent decades trying to redefine, weaken, and replace it," Miller told the Daily Signal. "As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, we should honor and strengthen the nuclear family—a husband and wife committed to one another for life and raising children with faith and purpose." President Bill Clinton in 1999 was the first president to officially declare June Pride Month, followed by Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The Trump administration, however, has not issued a proclamation on behalf of LGBTQ people during the month of June. The Trump Department of Education recognizes June as Title IX Month because the landmark women's sports ruling was issued in June 1972. Miller said "our survival as a country and civilization depends on the continuation of traditional marriage and family," so "it is fitting to observe a month of rededicating our Nation to the importance of the traditional nuclear family." "Strong families are the foundation of a strong nation," Miller said. Republican co-sponsors of Miller's resolution include Reps. Barry Moore of Alabama; Eli Crane of Arizona; Marlin Stutzman of Indiana; Pat Harrigan and Mark Harris of North Carolina; Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania; Diana Harshbarger and Andy Ogles of Tennessee; Michael Cloud, Keith Self, and Randy Weber of Texas; and Harriet Hageman of Wyoming.
