Investigations now underway in Congress, the Department of Justice, and the IRS are examining whether certain tax-exempt organizations may have violated campaign finance laws, concealed foreign influence operations, or improperly used nonprofit status to advance political agendas.

The latest development came Thursday when the House Oversight Committee issued a subpoena to the Sixteen Thirty Fund, the massive non-profit hub managed by Arabella Advisors. The subpoena demands internal communications and financial records regarding a social media influencer operation known as the Chorus program.

The core of the House inquiry involves the Chorus program's potential role in circumventing federal campaign finance laws. Specifically, the investigation focuses on the payment of social media influencers to disseminate political messaging without the disclosures mandated by campaign finance law.

The subpoena is the latest step in the Republican-led effort to map the liberal dark money network that has funneled undisclosed donations into judicial confirmations, environmental activism, and nationwide protests and election-year turnout operations.

According to reports cited in the investigation, the Chorus program allegedly paid influencers thousands of dollars each month to promote messaging favorable to Democrats while prohibiting participants from publicly disclosing the arrangement. Lawmakers argue that such practices may undermine transparency laws and media ethics standards.

The investigations extend beyond campaign finance concerns. The Justice Department has reportedly scrutinized the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) over allegations involving payments tied to extremist informants, while lawmakers are also pressing federal agencies to investigate nonprofit networks allegedly connected to Chinese Communist Party influence operations.

Republican leaders say the broader goal is to determine whether politically active nonprofits are improperly using tax-exempt status to shield coordinated political activity from public accountability. Critics of these organizations argue that Americans deserve greater transparency regarding who is funding major political messaging campaigns and activist operations. Meanwhile, the organizations involved have denied wrongdoing and described the investigations as politically motivated.
