The shooting took place at The Pursuit Seattle Church on Thursday, July 31, 2025, according to King 5 News. The suspect fled in a white Hyundai at the scene. The 28-year-old man who was killed was a member of Pursuit Seattle, and was at the church with his child with his child and wife when the event took place.

At the time of the shooting, a church barbecue was taking place while the young adult service was about to begin. Authorities believe that this was a targeted event.

On X, lead pastor Russell Johnson said that 30 bullets were fired in this incident:

"30 bullets fired at people walking in to our church tonight. A father is dead. Somethin[g] has to change in Seattle."

Johnson also noted that the Jewish community has come out as a huge support during this heartbreaking moment for the church:

"Thankful to my friends in the Jewish community who showed up tonight to grieve and ask how they could help. If anyone understands targeted violence against the religious community, it's our Jewish friends and neighbors. This has to stop. Whether it's in the synagogue on Saturday, or the church on Sunday, religious violence has no place in Seattle."

Pastor Greg Locke of Global Vision Bible Church also commented on the violent and senseless crimes.

"Praying for and standing with my friend @russellbjohnson during this terrible tragedy. The media should be ashamed for not covering this story!"
