Valedictorian Goes Viral for Declaring the Love of Jesus to Her Classmates"When everything else in my life felt uncertain, the only Person that I could depend on to stay the same was Jesus." -Lydia Owens
Valedictorian and senior class president Lydia Owens boldly declared her faith to her Woodmont High School classmates in three minutes. "Even if you accomplish all of your dreams or none of them at all, you are still valuable and you are still good enough because you are made in the image of God," Lydia said. "You don't have to worry about whether you will be successful, because God promises His grace is sufficient for us and His power is made perfect in our weaknesses." She also shared how her definition of success changed two years ago when her mom died. This Generation's Jesus Revolution: 4,000+ Baptized at California Beach "When tragedy struck my life, it was not my grades nor my accomplishments that helped me navigate through that loss," Lydia explained. "When everything else in my life felt uncertain, the only Person that I could depend on to stay the same was Jesus." Holding back tears, her father Brian Owens, executive pastor at First Baptist Simpsonville, told Fox Carolina that Lydia's mom was "smiling down from Heaven on that day." Lydia isn't taking any credit for the speech. "I don't want anyone to say, 'Lydia, wow, you did a great job!' Like, 'you were the one that said all those words.' Like that wasn't me speaking. Yes, I said the words, but that was God speaking through me," she told the local news.
