Additionally, more than 6,000 are injured. And thousands of families displaced from their homes. Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan's Purse, shared his sentiment on Facebook [last week]. "Yesterday's massive explosion in Beirut, Lebanon, was heard and felt nearly 150 miles away in Cyprus," he said. "The explosion was just a few hundred yards from the Karantina Alliance Church," he continued. Graham noted that his dear friend Sami Dagher founded and pastored the church for decades. "I talked with Sami, and the church, its Bible school, and its offices have a lot of damage." (Screengrab image: via Samaritanspurse.org) He added, "The country and the people are devastated. Samaritan's Purse will be helping the Church and as many as we can in the community. Would you join me in praying for Sami and the Karantina Alliance Church today? Please also pray for the families who lost loved ones and those who have been most impacted by this horrible incident." Samaritan's Purse airlifted the relief supplies. They landed safely on August 8. Together with the 26 tons of cargo was their 15-member response team. The organization is working with its longtime local church partner for the distribution of relief goods. They are still evaluating how they can best serve the hurting. "It's just devastating. It's completely unfathomable. We've never had anything like this before even in the civil war [1975-1990] in Lebanon," said their Beirut church partner. Moreover, they asked for prayers as they work to serve the people of Lebanon. "He asked that we pray for the Light of Christ to shine through his church members as they assist, and for wisdom for those who are leading the effort on the ground."
