Dr. Corinne: Men's Health - Part 2A reader's feedback, and why I am intent on starting a "No More Meds Movement"
That said, here are some more tips for Men's Health: Most health and wellness advocates agree that diets emphasizing fresh, whole ingredients and minimizing processed foods are superior for overall wellness. A few tips include limiting or avoiding animal products, focusing on including vegetables, fruits, and seeds and nuts, and excluding refined foods (like added sugars, white flour, and processed oils). Body Mass Index (BMI) Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated from height and weight. You are considered underweight if your BMI is below 18.5, whereas 18.5-24.9 is normal, 25.0 to 29.9 is overweight, and anything above 30 is considered obese. Here's a link to a BMI calculator to see where you fall on the chart: According to the CDC, men who are obese are at a higher risk for heart attack, stroke, type 2 diabetes, some types of cancers, depression, and many other ailments. It's therefore important to manage weight for disease prevention. Eating better and being physically active are the main keys to achieving a healthy BMI. Physical activity, without a doubt, is key to health and longevity. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provides science-based guidelines to help children and adults in the United States improve their health through appropriate physical activity. Recommendations state adults "should do at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) a week of moderate-intensity, or 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) a week of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity, or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity. Aerobic activity should be performed in episodes of at least 10 minutes, and preferably, it should be spread throughout the week." For additional health benefits, "adults should increase their aerobic physical activity to 300 minutes (5 hours) a week of moderate-intensity, or 150 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity." "Muscle-strengthening activities that are moderate or high-intensity and involve all major muscle groups on 2 or more days a week" should also be incorporated for optimal health outcomes. There are only 6 weeks left this year. You can start now with this plan for only $21. Enjoy and get active today. Here's Some Help to Get Active! Many men suffer from tight muscles and joints that lead to temporary discomfort and possibly permanent lack of physical activity. If getting out of the bed is difficult in the morning, or rehabbing your muscles seems to be taking longer as you age, or you just want to continue reaching new levels of physical success, then using essential oils in your routine may help. Start with waking up to peppermint. It's refreshing and a mood lifter. Are you worried about balding? So many men worry about their hair. Here are two herbal blends if you are battling with thinner hair than you desire... BLEND #1: -3 drops Rosemary -5 drops Lavender -4 drops Cypress -4 drops Clary Sage -4 drops Cedarwood BLEND #2: -8 drops Rosemary -10 drops Lavender -10 drops Sandalwood -10 drops Cedarwood You can massage the blends from above into your scalp before bed, leave in overnight, and wash it out as usual in the morning. Hair growth is a slow process, but using essential oils is special because there are no toxic ingredients. Stress Stress is a major contributor to many of the poor health outcomes and could be a reason why some men lose their hair. Stress is bad for the heart, can lead to poor eating choices which can cause fat accumulation around the belly, and type 2 diabetes. Stress is also linked to mental health concerns such as anxiety and depression. It's important to include stress reducing activities (like breathing exercises and physical activity) into daily routines. I know the holidays are around the corner and sometimes that means more stress. Take the time to enjoy the little things and re-connect with your love ones. Healing power in the act of giving One of the best ways to stay calm, content, and cheerful this time of year is to act generously with your loved ones, colleagues, and friends. This does not mean you need to spend a ton of money or do outlandish things, but the act of giving is the most rewarding experience you can create for yourself. Whether this means giving your time. Whether this means giving a small gift. Whether this means writing a note. Whether this means expressing gratitude. You can define generosity however it is best for you, but during this holiday season, make a commitment to experience the gift of helping the people you care about most. This is the ultimate solution to creating a stress-free holiday and your health will thank you. As Anne Frank so eloquently said, "No-one has ever become poor by giving."

In 2004, she founded the Upper Cervical Wellness Center in Indian Trail, North Carolina. Over the last 13 years, she has helped thousands of clients restore their brain to-body function. When she was 10 years old, she lost her own health as the result of a bike accident that led to having asthma and allergy issues that she thought she would always have to endure. Then, after her first upper cervical adjustment at age 21, her health began to improve thanks to upper cervical care and natural herbal remedies. This enabled her to create a drug-free wellness lifestyle for herself and her family, and she also enthusiastically discovered her calling to help children heal naturally. Dr. Weaver was named one of Charlotte Magazine's "Top Doctors" in 2016 and is now a number-one internationally bestselling author to two books: Learning How to Breathe and No More Meds. Upper Cervical Wellness Center is known for finding the root cause of health concerns through lifestyle changes, diagnostic testing, nutraceutical supplementation, and correction of subluxation (as opposed to just medicating the symptoms). The practice offers cutting-edge technological care at its state-of-the-art facility, including laser-aligned upper cervical X-rays, bioimpedance analysis (measures body composition), digital thermography (locates thermal abnormalities characterized by skin inflammation), and complete nutritional blood analysis, which is focused on disease prevention.
