Dr. Corinne Weaver: The Breathing, Anxiety and Gut Health Nexus; Correcting Issues Can be Utterly Life-Changing

Dr. Corinne Weaver : Apr 27, 2018  DrCorinneWeaver.com

"As I study the human body's physiology, I realize that we as doctors will never understand the full concept of how our bodies work as one. I have come to realize the more I learn the more I don't know! I will never stop learning and educating myself because it is fascinating to me and it is part of growing."

airliftSo many times, I hear people say, "Dr. Weaver, I can breathe and smell better after you correct my upper cervical spine." In fact, just yesterday, I saw a young man who has been having anxiety for about a year. He had trouble sleeping, shortness of his breath and mid back pain. He went to his doctor and his doctor prescribed some anti-anxiety meds. He told me the meds made him feel weird and he did not want to take them. My heart went out to him because I knew I was unable to see him many times due to him living 640 miles away. Then, yesterday, before I corrected his spine, I knew I was going to change his life for the better.

After his correction I made him rest with proper spinal alignment and I had him do some breathing techniques. About 30 minutes later, I woke him up and he had this big smile on his face saying I can breathe and I feel amazing!! I smile every time I hear someone tell me they can breathe better because I still remember my first upper cervical correction. I had no idea that day was going to change my life forever.

Last week I celebrated my 14th year in practice. I am so grateful for all these years I have been able to help serve my community. Being in practice I have learned that our bodies are amazing and wonderfully created. Christians believe God created humanity from dust and that He breathed life into us to make us live. (Genesis 2:7) It's wild just to think about it!

So where does our breathing come from and how can we change it?

Developing babies need oxygen in the womb but how do they get it if a baby won't take their first breath until after birth? This means that babies don't truly breathe in the womb. Instead, the umbilical cord provides the baby with oxygen until the first breath.

This means that the mother breathes in for the baby, and the oxygen in her blood is then transferred to the baby's blood. The mother also breathes out for the baby, as carbon dioxide from the baby is moved out through the placenta to the mother's blood, the removed with exhale.

Substances going into the developing baby, such as oxygen, never interact with the substances leaving the baby, such as waste products. They travel through the umbilical cord through two separate veins. It's fascinating how our bodies innately know exactly what to do!

I gave birth to all my babies at home and two of them were water births. I chose a water birth because it was more soothing and helped some with the pain. Let me make sure you understand that giving birth naturally was still painful but being in the water seemed to relax me and help me deal with the pain better. Having a baby in water is generally safe and won't affect a baby's ability to breathe because the baby is getting oxygen from the umbilical cord.

After I delivered my babies I brought them up and out of the water and then they took their first breath. It was the most captivating experience. I have never given birth in a hospital setting, but I have helped women achieve natural childbirths in a hospital. Hospitals always created anxiety for me due to all my hospital visits as a child with asthma so giving birth at home seemed like the right choice for me.

Back to the young man with anxiety

I began by discussing a young man with anxiety. Well, did you know digestion issues can lead to anxiety? Because of that, I recommended a probiotic for him, along with vitamin D, fish oil, and a B-complex. Hippocrates said, "All disease begins in the gut." We have now proven his theory.

Gut health determines brain health. It's not rare to hear those who complain of mental health difficulties mention diet and a difficult relationship with food and stress-eating as part of the symptoms of their illness they experience.

Stress eating

Recent studies have shown that an overwhelming amount of our positive hormones and enzymes are actually secreted in the gut, and this means that ensuring digestion is at is optimum level should be a priority for those seeking to balance out hormonal and emotional functioning.

airliftFor stress-eaters, this could be an interesting place to start considering their bad habits from. The emotions causing the stress-eating might actually initiate with complex hormonal imbalances, and so regulating digestion should become priority to lower the chances and severity of these imbalances, slowly returning a certain amount of control to them in regard to their emotional eating habits. Finding out food sensitivities can be very helpful when healing their gut. As I remove food sensitivities with patients and add certain probiotics patients have told me that they have less anxiety and more a positive outlook in life. If you have been having some health issues one of the ways to take action on your health is to test. When someone is having gut issues I always test what foods are causing them inflammation. For your gut to heal you have to remove the foods that are causing an immune system response. A good overall metabolic profile is the best way to determine if you're following the correct diet, if you need to supplement your diet or make changes to your supplement regimen and to make sure there isn't anything critical creeping up on you. Many diseases can be seen in the blood long before you have symptoms.

By knowing deficiencies and toxicities that make up one's metabolic analysis, one can evaluate their lifestyle and make better choices to optimize their health.  It's not easy knowing where to start.  Contact us for a professional assessment and laboratory analysis to detect your body's biochemical and physiological state. Let us help you get on the road to better health ... today!

On a final note

Dr. Corinne Weaver is a compassionate upper cervical chiropractor, educator, motivational speaker, mother of three, and internationally bestselling author. In 2004, she founded the Upper Cervical Wellness Center in Indian Trail, North Carolina. Over the last 13 years, she has helped thousands of clients restore their brain to-body function. When she was 10 years old, she lost her own health as the result of a bike accident that led to having asthma and allergy issues that she thought she would always have to endure. Then, after her first upper cervical adjustment at age 21, her health began to improve thanks to upper cervical care and natural herbal remedies. This enabled her to create a drug-free wellness lifestyle for herself and her family, and she also enthusiastically discovered her calling to help children heal naturally.

Dr. Weaver was recently named one of Charlotte Magazine's "Top Doctors" in 2016 and is now a number-one internationally bestselling author to two books: Learning How to Breathe and No More Meds.

Upper Cervical Wellness Center is known for finding the root cause of health concerns through lifestyle changes, diagnostic testing, nutraceutical supplementation, and correction of subluxation (as opposed to just medicating the symptoms). The practice offers cutting-edge technological care at its state-of-the-art facility, including laser-aligned upper cervical X-rays, bioimpedance analysis (measures body composition), digital thermography (locates thermal abnormalities characterized by skin inflammation), and complete nutritional blood analysis, which is focused on disease prevention.
