And, although it's doubtful that President Obama's nominee will advance to any confirmation, the president did announce his pick to replace the late Justice Scalia on Wednesday: Judge Merrick Garland.
 
Judge Garland, is 63-years-old, and is currently the chief justice of the Washington DC Court of Appeals.

In his announcement from the White House Rose Garden, President Obama noted, "I have fulfilled my Constitutional duty, now it's time for the Senate to do theirs."
 
However, Senate Republicans, led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have 'vowed' not to consider any nominee by the president until after the November election.

Following President Obama's announcement, McConnell spoke to the Senate, pointing out a statement made in a 1992 speech by then-Judiciary Chairman Joe Biden who said, "The Senate Judiciary Committee should seriously consider not scheduling confirmation hearings on the nomination until after the political campaign season is over."
