UK-based charity Samaritan's Purse is to receive part of a £30m (UK pounds) aid package announced by International Development Secretary Justine Greening, which will be used to provide much needed items to keep people clean, safe and warm on their journey.

Samaritan's Purse UK Executive Director Simon Barrington says this help is crucial towards the response to the European refugee crisis in these winter months: "We're delighted to be able to put these funds to urgent use, as we are helping thousands of women and children who have fled the horrors of the Syrian conflict on their long journey through Europe.

"We'll be providing them with a combination of warm transit shelters; hot showers; clean and hot water; backpacks with blankets, raincoats, food and hygiene items; menstrual hygiene kits; and a small number of pre-paid debit cards for 360,000 refugees transiting through Greece and Croatia over the winter months."
