A local government official, who wished to remain anonymous said, "They gathered the women and children and took them away in trucks after burning most of the village with petrol bombs."

News of the attack took several days to get out because the telecom towers had been destroyed. Authorities learned of the raid only after local residents who fled were able to make it to Maiduguri, where the officials had moved, according to the CNN report.

One local resident described the siege, "They destroyed almost half the village and took away 185 women, girls and boys," he said.
