Christian Singer Natalie Grant Responds to Hate Mail After Walking Out of Grammy's Because of Disturbing Performances

Teresa Neumann-Commentary : Jan 28, 2014  Jennifer Jones – Christian Today

I am honored to be a part of the Christian music community. I've had many people throughout my career ask why I never tried to go in to mainstream music and last night was a beautiful reminder that I love singing about Jesus and FOR Jesus… I do have my own personal convictions that I live by, and I will continue to work out my own salvation with fear and trembling before the Lord. (Philippians 2:12) -Natalie Grant

Dan Wooding and Bob Yerkes (Hollywood, CA)-I haven't watched the Grammy's in years, and given the steady downhill slide in television and celebrity vulgarity, God mocking, Christian bashing and moral depravity, this year was no exception.

But wow, I have been reading about it, as, no doubt, many of you have.

We'll ignore the gay wedding stunts and the fact that Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z performed such a raunchy duet that a firestorm of protest has erupted from parents' groups around the country, and focus, for the moment, on Katy Perry.

I suppose it's possible that Perry, being raised in the church and with a latent "call" on her life, might just still be acting out her adolescent rebellion against God and flexing her proud "independent thinker" badge to her adoring global audience and ultimately return to her roots.

katy perryI certainly pray that's the case. It's happened to many a Christian before, myself included.

It's just that, unlike me during my years of rebellion, Katy Perry is on the world stage and as such, she has the power to influence millions.

She IS influencing millions.

Perry, a "Pastor's Kid" was also raised in a Christian home and is said to have a "call" in her life, which is why I singled her out. Now, more than ever, please prayer for her and others in the entertainment industry. Like Brian Welch, a former member of the band Korn who was accused of being a satanist and became a radical Christian, we can pray believing for Perry that all things are possible.

Dan Wooding and Bob Yerkes That said, it was with great interest I read about Christian singer and Grammy nominee Natalie Grant, who was present at the awards ceremony and walked out, disturbed by what she was seeing. (Photo via Facebook)

In two postings, Grant tweeted: "We left the Grammy's early. I've many thoughts, most of which are probably better left inside my head. But I'll say this: I've never been more honored to sing about Jesus and for Jesus. And I've never been more sure of the path I've chosen."

Even "E Online," a secular blog, tweeted, "Um, did we just witness actual witchcraft during Katy Perry's #Grammys performance?"

And A. J. McCarron, former Alabama quarterback currently preparing for the NFL Draft, tweeted, "Is it just me, or are some of the Grammy performances so far seem to be really demonic?? Looks like there is a lot of evil in the world."

Grant has received support from many Christians, but not surprisingly, she's also being inundated with hate mail. Her response says volumes about her character and faith. Said Grant:

Nat GrantI've tried to read all of the comments on my previous post but I can't respond to them all. Most of you have always been so supportive and encouraging to me & I'm grateful. It does sadden me when people argue, judge and hurl insults at each other from both sides of the fence. I'm not going to engage in arguments, but just have a few things I'd like to say:

I NEVER said I left during any particular performance. I only said I left early.

I never pointed out any one particular performance, I only said I had many thoughts about the entire show, which were best left inside my head and that is where they will stay. So those who say I condemned one performance but then condoned others clearly did not read the post.

What I DID say is this: I am honored to be a part of the Christian music community. I've had many people throughout my career ask why I never tried to go in to mainstream music and last night was a beautiful reminder that I love singing about Jesus and FOR Jesus.

I've judged no one. I hate no one. And I believe that every person has been created in the image of God. I will never stand on a street corner and wave a sign, I won't use my platform to engage in political arguments that will only divide and not unite. I will continue to pray that my life will be my message. I do have my own personal convictions that I live by, and I will continue to work out my own salvation with fear and trembling before the Lord. (Philippians 2:12)

I was honored to be nominated for 2 Grammy awards last night. I'm so grateful that NARAS and The Grammys continue to recognize the contribution that Gospel and Christian music make to the world. And I'm so thrilled for those who won in my categories. And I can say that with all sincerity.

My last thought:

"I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus for it is the power of God who brings salvation to ALL who believe." -Romans 1:16

Way to go Natalie. May your faith and self-respect be rewarded in this life and in Heaven.
