Peter Leavers, founder of the ministry Heart Cry for Wales, admits the going is spiritually difficult in his country, but he is not about to give up. "Only five percent of our population attends church," explains Leaver, also Pastor of Antioch Church in Colwyn Bay, Wales. "We need a spiritual awakening." But he adds, "There is a Welsh spirituality that wants to go deeper. It has to do with their Celtic DNA and their poetic side."

Last year, Believers in Wales celebrated the centennial of the Welsh Revival, but the milestone came as little consolation to the many Evangelical churches that are currently struggling in the country.

Leavers began Heart Cry for Wales a decade ago, organizing over 60 prayer meetings that have consistently decreased in attendance. However, he maintains hope for a revival in Wales that will affect Britain and eventually all of Europe.

"In the early 90s there was great expectation of revival," says Leavers. "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but there is a persevering quality in the Welsh. We've seen so many revivals in Wales. God has poured all this into Wales for a reason. We have to conclude the work isn't finished."
