A Miracle Amid the Tragedy of Theater Shooting, and Reactions from Dark Knight Actors"I don't know how, but she still has the baby. [Saturday], I was told she had lost it and today it's OK. It's a miracle as she was shot in the stomach." -Robert Sierra Last Friday's midnight showing was the first public viewing of "The Dark Knight Rises" across theaters all around the country. In an unthinkable act of violence, a lone gunman entered a theater in Aurora, Colorado, and took the lives of 12, wounding 58 others. Certainly prayers are still in order for those shooting victims who are still recovering, and for the families who've lost loved ones in the tragedy.
Twenty-five-year-old Ashley Moser, Veronica's mother, was pregnant when she was shot three times, and although one of those gunshots pierced her abdomen, the baby has survived, still in the womb as Moser battles for her life and that of her unborn child. Ashley's brother, Robert Sierra told the Daily Mail, "I don't know how, but she still has the baby. [Saturday], I was told she had lost it and today it's OK. It's a miracle as she was shot in the stomach." The young mother, who had recently been accepted to nursing school, was distraught upon learning, Saturday, that her 6-year-old had died. Besides her abdomen, Ashley Moser was also shot in the neck and may have some paralysis, though doctors are not sure how extensive it will be. The horrific shooting naturally quelled the usual amount of excitement surrounding a blockbuster movie, and the actors and directors involved were not unaffected. Christian Bale, who stars in this latest (and the previous) Batman movie, said, "Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them." Co-Star Anne Hathaway, who plays Catwoman in the film, issued a statement on Sunday, saying, "My heart aches and breaks for the lives taken and altered by this unfathomably senseless act. I am at a loss for words how to express my sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families." Director Christopher Nolan shared his stars' condolences, saying, "The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me."
