Thursday morning carried with it terror and destruction in London as several explosions went off in the public transportation system, shutting down the entire underground network. By 2:22 London time, the number of casualties had climbed to 45, with possibly up to 1,000 injuries, 150 of them serious.

Prime Minister Tony Blair, leaving Scotland where he was hosting the G-8 Summit, concluded it was terrorism. "It's important, however, that those engaged in terrorism realize that our determination to defend our values and our way of life is greater than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people and a desire to impose extremism on the world," Blair, visibly emotional, commented. "Whatever they do, it is our determination that they will never succeed destroying what we hold dear in this country and in other civilizations in the world."

It is reported that a group known as Al Quaeda Europe is claiming responsibility for the attack.
