After reading about and sharing the story of Rachelle Friedman—the girl who suffered a paralyzing neck injury last year when she was playfully pushed into the shallow end of a pool at her bachelorette party—I knew her wedding to fiancée Chris Chapman would be very special.
And the video of last weekend's wedding ceremony did not disappoint.
The Today Show, which had featured the story a year ago when the accident happened just prior to the planned wedding, brought the follow up on this morning's broadcast.
The Today Show also surprised the newlyweds with a home renovation, making it completely wheelchair accessible, and much easier for Rachelle to maneuver.
Rachelle never held anything against the girl who pushed her in the pool a year ago, saying that "it was an accident, a freak accident. It could've happened to anyone."
Chris said of her uplifting spirit, "It kind of proves what I've always known about her," he said on the interview. "She's always been positive and had a lot of energy and charisma since the moment I met her."
According to the Today Show video, the couple was given a fantasy wedding thrown by 1-800-REGISTRY, which had seen their story. They provided the video to NBC News.
"Rachelle very much wanted her and Chris's wedding to be reflective of who they are as a couple," explained Jennifer Glatt, a wedding planner with the company. "Their love is very easy to see. They lived their vows long before they ever said them."
When it came to those vows, Chris and Rachelle recited the ones they'd written for each other before saying, "I do."
Now the two are celebrating their honeymoon in Fiji.
