(The Bahamas)—With 16 homicides to date this year in the Bahamas, church and civic leaders are addressing the problem.

After speaking to the congregation at Transfiguration Baptist Church last week, Commissioner Ellison Greenslade told reporters, "We are at the stage where our nation needs tremendous healing. That need is urgent and I will also say without any fear or trepidation and without any apologies that I grew up with a full understanding in this country that healing takes place at the Cross. There's a lot of love in church and there is supposed to be so in each home."

"We need to respect each other," the police commissioner added. "Where there is respect, we don't stab and shoot each other, rape young women and molest boys and girls. We have been having homicides for well over five years so it's nothing new, but we, as a nation, have been slipping."
